When I walked into Gahanna Lincoln High School my first day of freshman year, I had no idea all that lay ahead of me. I had no idea how much I would grow and that the next four years would be some of the best in my life. Now, as a freshman at Ohio University, I've spent some time reminiscing. Thus, I have complied this list of 25 characteristics, some good, some bad, about our beloved GLHS.
1. Two words: overcrowded hallways.
2. Being incredibly annoyed at students who decide to use the wrong staircase.
3. Hauling ass so you could get from one side of the school to the other in six minutes time.
4. Almost not making it to school on time due to the traffic the parents dropping their kids off at B Building create.
5. Dreading the hell that is trying to leave the parking lot at the end of the school day.
6. You probably went to Stoneridge for lunch and feared for your life when you almost did not return to school in time.
7. Thinking you are sly by going out for lunch as an underclassman (you rebel, you).
8. Taking summer gym to avoid having to get all sweaty and gross in the middle of your school day.
9. At some point in your four years at GLHS, you stuck a piece of gum on the infamous gum wall.
10. Playing senior tag, even though the principal says anyone caught playing will be suspended.
11. Secretly wanting to go down to the pool in the basement to see if it was actually haunted.
12. Always trying to find an excuse to go on the roof just so you could say you’ve been on the roof.
13. Secretly wishing you could pet the stuffed lion.
14. AKD. Enough said.
15. Script Lions
16. Holiday Marathon
17. Varsity Varieties
18. The man, the myth, the legend: Jim Singer
19. The Paw Print (and all things DECA)
20. Wondering what exactly PS stood for, and why those kids in the matching sweatshirts were always together (unless you were a theater kid, of course).
21. Always wishing you would have taken TV (if you didn't).
22. Wondering why the senior girls are wearing Greek letters... We aren't in college yet.
23. Always fearing HE11, but never hearing an explanation as to why it seems so scary.
24. Seeing at least one cockroach in your four years.
25. Wondering when they will ever update the bathrooms.
But, no matter how gross those bathrooms were, how frustrated you would get trying to maneuver the hallways or how tiring the school day could be, it is always nice to know that GLHS is and will always be home.
