24 Things To Get Excited About Right Now
Elena Ramirez-Gorski

It's the time of year where everything is bland. Life is gray, cold, and wet in early March. It's like old, unsweetened, cold oatmeal-- pretty gross. One of my old high schools actually would schedule a mid-winter break just because everyone would be too down to be productive. So, in light of how icky we all must feel, I thought it would be nice to have a list of things to get excited about right now.

1. One day, summer will be here.

And when that day comes it will be glorious and you can go have pizza picnics with people you were really needing to see. You can sit on the warm grass and just appreciate things for what they really are.

2. Sometime today, you can go to sleep.

Sleep is real neat. If you are taking a nap: climbing into bed, ready for sleep even if the sun isn't. You can be soft and warm and it is perfectly acceptable to channel your inner grandma and douse your entire world with lavender.

3. "Fuller House"

I heard it should be good.

4. Donuts.

They make you go nuts.

5. Listening to someone funny talk.

And laughing at the things they didn't even mean to be funny.

6. Random YouTube videos.

And then letting them consume your entire life until you are only communicating to your friends in references.

7. If you want to hear a song, you can just pull it out of thin air and listen to it.

This is really convenient. You don't even need to buy it. That's cool, right? Couldn't do that twenty years ago.

8. Leo won!

I think it is safe to say that he deserves it.

9. Get excited about connecting with people.

And just really great conversations in general.

10. Visits home.

Visiting pets, hanging out with friends, cable. What's not to like?

11. Pulling all-nighters.

And the people you spend them with and the embarrassing memories that you are bound to have.

12. Ordering three coffees in the morning because you had just that great of a night.

This one is self-explanatory.

13. Random art projects created out sudden bursts of creativity.

Either in the form of music, food, or a doodle; art is everything.

14. Talking to that one person you thought was going to remain a stranger.

And then finding out that you two have a lo in common.

15. Not having a curfew.

Just because the world is asleep doesn't mean you have to be.

16. Get excited about perfect lighting.

Writing this right now, in this lighting, everything is beautiful.

17. Going home and taking your shoes off.

My roommate is particularly fond of this one.

18. Getting free T-shirts.

I will do anything for a free T-shirt.

19. Getting random text messages from someone you haven't heard from in a while.

Quoting song lyrics to each other is the best and most romantic thing.

20. Get excited about being excited.

It's a good feeling, right?

21. Birthdays.

Yours or your friend's or your dog's birthday. All are acceptable.

22. Going somewhere new.

With people you've known all your life.

23. Hamilton.

It's really good.

24. That you are alive.

You are existing and growing and changing. Be excited that there was a you that existed in the past and that there is a you that will exist beyond this moment and that right now, in this miraculous instance of existence, you are somehow here. That there were so many variables that had to line up perfectly so that you could be breathing and reading this right now. There were so many things that had the potential to not happen that it is truly a miracle that you are here. But you are. Somehow, you exist.

That is something to get mildly stoked about.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
