"New year, new me." We see this phrase plastered across 2017 inaugural Instagram posts, tweets about self-improvement in the coming year, and Facebook updates where we promise to better ourselves in the next 365 days. But do we really need to change ourselves, or do we need to become resolute in the idea that we can become better versions of who we are in the next year? Here's 23 resolutions for college girls like me to keep in the coming year to help them do just that.

1. Live a healthier lifestyle.

2. And don't make it about your weight, make it about eating cleaner, exercising more, and feeling better.

3. Likewise, have more body positivity. For another people, and for yourself.

4. Develop even better study habits.

5. Set greater academic goals for yourself.

6. Create a sleep schedule that allows you to catch enough zzzz's, and stick to it.

7. Finish your assignments at least two days in advance.

8. Actually, just quit procrastinating as a whole.

9. Listen to one new song every day.

10. Break your bad habits. ***Cough cough, stop biting your nails, cough cough.

11. Learn to do something new.

12. Let go of negative people.

13. If you want to say something, speak up and let it be heard.

14. Take more pictures.

15. Follow through with all of your "to-do" lists.

16. Do more of what makes you happy.

17. Try a new shade of lipstick.

18. Read more.

19. Strengthen the long-distance relationships in your life.

20. Take an adventure somewhere new each month.

21. Try new food.

22. Less self-loathing, and more self-loving.

23. Forgive yourself if you forget these resolutions every once in a while.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
