I'm a Princess of Procrastination, meaning that I flawlessly tend to leave certain significant things to the last minute. Instead of being a normal procrastinator, a Princess of Procrastination is bold, knowing of her situation, and quick during times of pressure. These qualities allow her to persevere in times of difficulty. However, just like everyone else, she still struggles to manage her time and maintain a balance. Princess Procrastination Syndrome (PPS) affects girls all across the country and can be treated by making schedule of one's day, studying and doing class work little by little every day, and saving time each day for self-reflection. Most of all, its cure lies in finding a balance between the important things in life. But hey, we're all human, so here are some symptoms of PPS so that you can get treated ASAP:
1. You tell your friends to meet at a certain area so that you can get work done, but you end up talking to them instead.
2. You do the walk of shame out of the library because you accomplished nothing.
3. You've become distracted by the simplest things, from a door opening to people coughing.
4. You actually thought that, this time, you'd be able to get your assignments done by the weekend.
5. You keep wishing that you could be your friend: that friend who has it all together.
6. You push the snooze button so that you can keep napping. You promise yourself that you'll do your work upon waking up, whenever that'll be...
7. When the going gets rough, your philosophy is to run away and quit.
8. When people tell you that the exam is in two days, you don't believe them.
9. You try to calm your parents down after explaining that you've insufficiently studied.
10. You feel ready to let go and leave this school stuff all behind because, at a certain point, there's no use.
11. You keep asking people if you'll be able to do it. You're constantly in need of affirmation.
12. You keep asking what you did to deserve this fate.
13. Someone mentions an assignment that is completely unfamiliar to you.
14. You get offended when people comment on your inability to do work and study properly.
15. You try to quickly skim the book and cram for the main ideas.
16. You become easily overwhelmed by what lies ahead.
17. You tried studying but all you can think about is food.
18. You get too tired of working, so you try comforting yourself in front of the mirror for a bit.
19. You begin to doubt yourself and question what you're even doing anymore.
20. You submit your paper at 11:59 P.M. with a few more seconds until midnight.
21. You finally make the decision to write that five-page paper that's due tomorrow and study for the exam which is a few days away.
22. Eventually, you come to terms with your situation and make the best of what you have. You decide to be positive and just study.
Princess Procrastination Syndrome has affected me, just like it has many other girls (and boys too). The best thing to do, however, is to learn from mistakes and create a strategy to be the ninja-princess that's inside all of us. Organize your day, have energy and motivation, take advantage of the limited time that you have on earth, make even the smallest difference, keep time for yourself plus friends and family, continue to push through during hard times, and remember to self-reflect. Be brave! You'll do well!
