Ocean City, Maryland is a small city with 10 miles of public beach and breathtaking views. It has been my family's vacation spot since I was about four years old and it would be strange to not go every year. It has become a second home to me. After 16 years, I have learned my way around and can navigate the streets better than my hometown. Here are a few of my favorite things about the beach town.
1. OC Rocket
The bright yellow boat can easily be spotted from the shore line carrying passengers on an adrenaline-fueled ride.
2. The Pier
A never ending carnival with rides and games. There is even live music on the beach. The Ferris wheel on the pier can be seen all the way at the other end of the boardwalk.
3. View of Assateague Island
Past the games and rides is the inlet. From there you can look out across the water and see the wild horses that live on the island.
4. Ripley's Believe It Or Not
As you approach the pier this huge, mechanical shark greets you from the side of a curious building. OCMD is to one of the famous museums full of curiosities.
5. Brass Ball's Saloon
Great burgers, sarcastic signs, and a unique drink menu is what awaits you here on this boardwalk establishment. Kid's meals also come in a sand pail to play with on the beach.
6. OC Brewing Company
One of the newest additions to the town, OC Brewing Company has their very own, unique beers made on site.
7. Fisher's Popcorn
Fisher's is famous for their caramel popcorn, but their other flavors are just as delicious. Cinnamon caramel and white cheddar are my personal favorites.
8. DaVinci's By The Sea
I like to think of it as Olive Garden but way better. The dressing on the salad is made in house and can't be found anywhere else. Great Italian dinning!
9. Phillip's Crab House
When dinner time comes I've seen lines wrap around the building of eager people ready to dive into their delicious crab.
10. Old Time Photo
Take a step back in time here. Dress up like a flapper, gangster, southern belle, anything!
11. Polish Water Ice
My personal favorite dessert on the boardwalk. It's refreshing! You can get shakes, freezes, add soda to it, or your favorite candy.
12. The Bridge
As soon as my family hits the bridge that takes you into the city my window is rolled down so I can breathe in the smell of the bay.
13. The Fractured Prune
No prunes sold here. But the best doughnuts are!
14. Park Place Jewelers
Home of the unique OC bracelet. It has different designs over the years it has been around, but the original has an interlocking OC and 10 small bands wrapped around the bangle to represent the 10 miles of beach.
15. Sunsations
You see this beach shop on every block. It has OCMD souvenirs, hermit crabs, beach gear, and clothes.
16. Thrashers
"Where the seagulls like to hang out," as my dad likes to put it. And they're smart for it, because the buckets of fries are so full a few are bound to drop out.
17. The Gallery
Arguable the most interesting building on the boardwalk. It is covered in paper, pictures, and cardboard. The inside isn't organized in any conventional manor. The walls and ground are covered with stacks of posters, painting, and pictures for sale.
18. Salty Dog Saloon
Pittsburgh sports bar in the middle of Maryland. Kid's meals come in dog bowls.
19. Jonah and The Whale
All you can eat seafood buffet!!
20. Jolly Roger's
Amusement park, water park, and go cart track all wrapped up on one location.
21. The Greene Turtle
Another fantastic restaurant and souvenir shop.
22. White Marlin Open
The first half of August welcomes fishermen to catch the biggest white marlin. The open lasts for a week and there is always good food and good competition.
