1. Your best friend lived 30 minutes away. Or more!

2. Your school single-handedly kept Sperrys in business.

3. Everyone always knew about everything.

4. Including the teachers.

5. You didn't know what to wear in college.

6. The 11th commandment: Thou shall not bring a cell phone to class.

7. You've worn your uniform to the grocery store at least once and got the typical stares.

8. You hear gossip about people from high school just as much as when you were actually there.

9. Your knee socks just wouldn't stay up.

10 You never realized that boys at public school were actually allowed to have facial hair.

11. You could name every person in your grade.

12. And the other three grades.

13. Your mother, and her mother, and her husband's grandmother all went to that school.

14. You played a sport solely because you were allowed to wear a spirit shirt on game days instead of the typical uniform.

15. School spirit was big, even if the teams weren't.

16. You still hate your private school's rival school.

17. People came to your school when they got kicked out of public school.

18. Someone always failed to remember it was a dress-down day, and they showed up to school in their uniform.

19. You gave up trying to look presentable after freshman year.

20. You were close to everyone in your class because you had gone to school with them since kindergarten.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
