I've grown a lot in the past year both mentally and emotionally. Having my boyfriend around has helped me open my eyes, seeing things from a different perspective and humbling myself greatly. I know Thanksgiving has already passed, but there are still many reasons I'm thankful for my boyfriend.
1. He protects me.
Whether it be from something as small as holding my hand a little tighter when crossing the street to making sure I don't fall off a cliff(hasn't happened but with me, you never know), I know that he will always go out of his way to protect me.
2. He goes out of his way.
This is something that I find super special. I'm a very emotional person so it's not rare that I find myself crying or getting angry. Even so, he makes sure that I am happy all of the time instead of just brushing me off.
3. I can trust him.
I've had boyfriends before that have done nothing but put ideas in my head as to what they were doing. I couldn't trust them and so meeting my current boyfriend was weird for me because I didn't get that feeling of suspicion.
4. Even after fights, he still manages to make me laugh.
My boyfriend is super goofy. After we fight, he still manages to make me laugh and cause me to forget what I was even upset about.
5. He's his own person.
There is absolutely no one like him, I swear. I've learned to love the different things about him when walking down the street.
6. He'll check my car before I leave to go out of town.
I go to a college that is about 4 hours away from where I live. Every time I'm about to head back to school, it has become routine that my boyfriend checks my car and makes sure everything is good to go. It makes me feel better about leaving knowing he cares about my safety.
7. He knows how to cook.
We've established that I can't cook. Last time I tried, I burned the bacon and we had to open every window and door to air it out. When we're on a budget for date night, I know I can count on him to whip up something amazing at his house.
8. His family makes me feel welcome.
The first time meeting someone's family is always nerve racking. When I met his family for the first time, I immediately felt welcomed and like I knew them my whole life. It makes going over to his house so much fun.
9. He still makes me feel like we just started dating.
Everyone says that eventually, the honeymoon phase will end. We have been dating for almost 1 year. Although that is a long time, it doesn't feel like it. It feels like we've been dating, at the most, 3 months. It's awesome watching time fly and nothing really changing.
10. He calls me pretty.
Because we are long distance, we Facetime a lot. When we Facetime, I'm usually in my pjs and my hair is all wet and stringy. Even so, he still tells me that I'm pretty and that my hair looks good. It makes me comfortable when I go to his house with no makeup on and a big t-shirt on.
11. He listens to me complain about everything.
Whether is be about girl drama or about my classes, he always listens intently. I'll always tell him that I'm probably annoying him but he reassures me that he doesn't care and that he likes to listen to me complain.
12. He sings with me in the car.
Our taste in music is pretty different. Even so, he will sing with me in the car or listen to me sing to Hannah Montana, Ben Rector, or even High School Musical.
13. He doesn't make me want to check my phone when we're on dates.
This is my favorite parts about dates. When we go out, I don't ever feel the reason or the need to scroll through my instagram or my twitter. I'm so occupied with being with him that what's going on in social media doesn't matter.
14. He opens my eyes to every side of the story.
My boyfriend is almost always on my side of the story but when he's not, he does a good job of opening my eyes to every side of the story and he does it in the most gentle way.
15. He knows what I like in my coffee.
It's gotten to the point that he knows that I only like a little bit of creamer or nothing at all in my coffee. It's always nice not to have to remind him when he gets it for me.
16. He invites me to his family game night.
His family likes to do family game night a couple of nights a week. When he invites me to those, it make me feel like I'm apart of the family.
17. He's super old-fashoned.
I love, when I watch old movies, I point out all the things that he does like opening the door for me, picking me up, bringing me flowers, etc. He also drives a truck from the 60's which is fun:)
18. He makes sitting at his house watching a movie feel like a date.
We are both college students so sometimes, it's hard to go on a date when you don't really have that much money. During these times, we just go to a redbox and watch a movie at his house. He cooks dinner and we just sit on the couch and watch the movie. It makes me feel like we're still doing date night.
19. He asks about my family.
This is so special to me. He truly finds interest in my family. Almost every time we speak, he usually asks about how my family is doing. And it's not just my immediate family, he asks about my grandmother, my cousins, and so on. It makes me feel like he truly cares.
20. He's adorably cheesy.
When I say that he's cheesy, I'm not joking. When we go out and he gives me flowers, he will say something like "These reminded me of your eyes". It's something that I love about him. It takes a real boyfriend to do that and to be confident when doing it.
21. He makes me feel thankful.
Sometimes, I sit back and feel this overwhelming sense that everything is how it's supposed to be.
I'm not saying that our relationship is perfect, we still go through a lot and I know that in the time to come, we will still find ourselves in tough situations. Finding the good things about your significant other makes getting through anything, possible.
Much Love Always. -Addison.
