Every year, the Chinese New Year corresponds with an animal of the Chinese Zodiac (a cycle of 12 that starts over every 12 years) and an element (metal, water, wood, fire or earth). 2016 is the Year of the Fire Monkey, which — according to the Chinese lunar calendar — will last from Feb. 8, 2016 to Jan. 27, 2017. Some past monkey years have been 2004, 1992, 1980, and 1968. So if your Zodiac sign is the monkey, congrats — it’s your year!

The monkey is the ninth animal of the Zodiac. Monkeys are characterized as smart, cunning, charming, lucky, adaptable, witty, and dynamic. The monkey’s lucky numbers are one, seven, and eight; and its lucky colors are white, gold, and blue. Although this year is the Year of the Fire Monkey, the monkey’s main element is metal.

Monkeys like exciting challenges and seek that in their work. So careers like professional athletes, diplomats, stockbrokers, and lawyers might appeal to them. They might also show interest in acting, writing, journalism, construction, real estate, insurance, banking, and more.

Supposedly, people born this year will be especially ambitious and adventurous, but sometimes irritable. They will be sociable, confident, innovative, and enthusiastic; but also selfish, arrogant, and sometimes jealous.

While 2016 is your year, monkeys — it may not be a smooth one. You may face challenges in your career. While your goals may seem practical, the outcome may be negative. Try to work especially hard and your effort will be recognized. However, it is a good year to change jobs if you feel you have another job in mind. Be very cautious of investment this year. Don’t trust people too easily, and try to be aware of deception.

Make sure to take care of your physical health this year. Make more time for healthy eating and exercise. Watch out for illness within your family, and avoid water activities as you are likely to have an accident.

This year may put strain on long-term relationships. Long-time marriages may be met with divorce and long-time relationships may end if you do not marry before the year is out. Giving each other a bit of space may improve conflict. For single monkeys, look for love in those you meet through business and travel.

On a global scale, 2016 will be a year of great economic growth and incredible invention. Education will be extremely important. Educate yourself in the matters of your life. Study up on your career or hobbies. Be creative and innovative with the knowledge you gain and who knows what you could accomplish!

Most importantly, this will be a year of change. The monkey will overthrow old conventions. A new wave of thought will emerge. The economy will improve and outdated empires will collapse.

So keep on your toes, stay safe, and look forward to a year of revolution!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
