The year of 2016 will be one to remember. The main reason I say this is because of the United States Presidential Election coming up in November of this year.
I often watch the presidential candidates on the various platforms that they appear. Whether it’s on television or social media, I’m reminded that each presidential candidate reminds me that the U.S. is in for a roller coaster ride, not a fun one either.
Here are some reasons why I believe that the U.S. is in a heap of trouble.
- Each one of the presidential candidates cannot get on television without making a fool of himself or herself or of another candidate. It’s sickening to know that the next president will be someone who acted a fool on television.
- The U.S. has a racism problem. It seems as if each day it gets worse. If it’s not another horrible death being shown on television, it’s a protest on racial profiling by cops. You would hope that the next president would want to stop this racism problem. The sad thing is that most of the candidates are fueling the fire instead of putting it out.
- The U.S. has been improving when it comes to test scores in schools compared to other countries. This doesn’t mean we aren’t catching up with the top runners, such as Japan, Germany or China. In 2012, the U.S. scored 35th out of 64 countries in math and 27th in science. As you can see, we are not doing so impressive. The sad thing about this is that it’s not even a front running topic discussed by the presidential candidates.
- The U.S. has a violence problem. I will take Memphis, Tennessee for example. 42 days into 2016, Memphis already had 30 homicides. This isn’t the only city that is experiencing problems with murders. Cities such as Detroit and New Orleans also face huge problems.
Many other problems exist in the U.S. and I believe that the presidential candidates are not focused on what really matters and it makes me sick to my stomach.
I just hope that whoever wins the presidential race is what America needs.
