Think about your definition of a true friend. You may be able to pick one or a few people in your life that truly live up to this standard. However, as humans we, even with our best attempts, fall short. Who truly raises the bar is our four-legged furry friend, the dog. Known to be man's best friend, they surpass humanity's fickleness, and in many ways are better than we are. Here are some reasons why:
1. They forgive you right away.
*Yelp* Instant horror that you stepped on your dog's foot. Not even a moment passes and they are already loving on you.
2. They are loyal.
We all know that pained moment when you're dog look betrayed since they smell another dog on you.
3. They are so happy! They are naturally in a good mood.
4. They are sad when you are sad.
What's better than canine comfort on a bad day?
5. They protect who they love.
Even if they only weigh 10 pounds, they act like they're a 80 pound guard dog.
6. They know the appreciation of naps.
They can fall asleep anywhere, anytime... And will even offer to be a pillow.
7. They aren't picky eaters.
This is a blessing and a curse...
8. They believe they are beautiful no matter what shape or size.
9. They take joy in the small things.
No human was ever so happy over a hot dog.
10. They take time to smell the flowers...or fire hydrants.
It's the little things that get them through their day.
11. They can entertain themselves.
Barks at the mailman. Barks at the neighbor. Barks at the leaf. Barks at nothing.
12. They love unconditionally.
No matter what happens, they always shower us with undeserved affection .
13. They are low maintenance.
Even though they don't require much... we tend to spoil them.

They not only cuddle but give you their body heat... Which isn't so nice on a hot day.
