20 Things That Makes Me The "Mom"

I'm not a regular mom. I'm a cool mom.

20 Things That Makes Me The "Mom"
Elizabeth Nguyen

My mom is awesome. I love her to death but I got the "mom" role because I had to start taking care of my little sister. So when my sister was born, I just got the "mom" instincts. I am the mom of my friend group, the mom of my hall (even my RA said that I would be a great mom in the future), and a mini mom to my sister.

1. I have wet wipes in my purse.

Yes, I am that person. I use wet wipes before I eat and after I eat. I will give it to you if we are eating together. And yes, those are from Chick-fil-a. Don't judge me.

2. I will ask you what time you went to bed.

I just want to know how many hours you slept and if you are going to be grumpy that day. It's a good heads up for me to know how you are going to act that day.

3. I always say, "I love you" to everyone that I know.

I'm not usually an affectionate person but I will say "I love you" to the people who are close to me.

4. I will take care of you drunk even when I don't want to.

Usually Nicolay will take care of us but I will have to help her from time to time.

5. I usually have to lead the group in the right direction.

I guess being in Girl Scouts and being the mom makes me use my leadership instincts.

6. When I'm playing hostess, I ask, "Are you hot?", "Are you cold?", "Can I get you some water?", "Are you okay?"

7. I have a first aid box in my room.

Yes, I literally have everything from eye drops to itch cream to Neosporin to ear drops. If you're hurt or sick, I can probably help you out.

8. My friends and hallmates call me mom.

I love all of them so much.

9. I make sure everyone is fed.

I sometimes cook meals and I sometimes just use my swipes for people in the dining hall because I have so much swipes leftover that I use it on my friends. I sometimes have to buy dinner too.

10. I constantly ask my friends if they have everything before we leave the dorm.

"Do you have your keys?", "Do you have your wallet?", "Do you have your ID?" "Do you have your cell phone?"

11. I always ask my friends if they have finished their homework.

Even though I procrastinate so much, I want to make sure they are not overwhelm and finish it.

12. I don't like anyone walking by themselves so I will walk with them.

As if my friends are my children, I will walk with them anywhere they need to go. Even if I am exhausted, I will walk you back to your dorm, to the dining hall, or to the gym.

13. I find myself way too often saying "no" or "don't do that".

14. I'm the only one with the car in MAAN so I mostly drive.

15. I'm also very sarcastic and give out tough love.

I say how it is. I'm also very mean but I mean it in a tough love way. I still love you.

16. I have a mom purse.

I love having a mom purse because I can literally fit anything I need in it. I can fit snacks, waters, jacket, tissues, wet wipes.

17. I always take pictures whenever we go out.

Okay, I might not always take pictures but I will ask some stranger to take a group pictures. I'm pretty sure I get it from my mom because she has thousands of pictures of my sister and I in our house.

18. I know important dates.

I know when the last day of the semester, when we get back, when grades are finalized, when homecoming was. Everyone always ask me when events take place.

19. I say, "Because I said so."

I mean, every mom says this because they can.

20. I dress like a mom.

P.S. I even bought gifts for my hallmates for Christmas. Doesn't that scream mom? But I love being the mom and I'm glad I had learned from the best. I love you mom.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
