20 Things Only Theater Kids Will Get

Being involved in theater since I was little has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Theater has made me into who I am as a person. Beautiful friendships of mine have been made through theater. Theater has given me so many opportunities as well. Throughout my life in theater, I have realized how in love I am with the craft. Here are some things that only theater kids who are obsessed with theater can relate to...

1.Your wardrobe consists mostly of Broadway apparel and show t-shirts.

I have gotten a Broadway t-shirt from basically every show I have seen, whether it be a national tour or Broadway show in New York City. It's almost like a tradition of mine to buy a t-shirt. So with the amount of show t-shirts I have plus all of the Broadway apparel I have, you can say I own quite a lot of t-shirts.

2.Your collection of playbills is insanely huge.

I have kept every single playbill from every single show I've seen...so yeah, I have a crap ton of playbills!

3.You know an impressive amount of historical facts thanks to musicals.

Thank You Lin Manuel Miranda for teaching me all about Alexander Hamilton, and U.S. History

4.You watch old show DVD’s like this..

5.Heck, you sometimes watch Broadway shows like that.

6.You have seen or been in your favorite show at least ONE THOUSAND TIMES

Yes, watching it on YouTube counts.

7.Your Facebook profile pic has been you with an actor/actress at a stage door.

8.Ellen’s Stardust Diner in New York City brings you so much joy.

I've only been there once, but man...what a beautiful experience

9.When you see Broadway merchandise, you just can’t help yourself.

I'm a sucker for everything that says NYC, or Broadway on it

10.When your director schedules a last minute tech rehearsal..

11.Post show depression is THE WORST feeling ever!!

12.When your teacher gives you homework due during tech week

13.Cast parties are the best kinds of parties.

14.That feeling of “pre-cast list posting anxiety”

15.You listen to musical cast soundtracks on a daily basis

The only music I listen to is cast soundtracks tbh...

16.Backstage drama

17.When your cast is basically an oversized, dysfunctional family

18.Running the curtain call over, and over, and over again

During one of the shows I was in, in high school, I'm pretty positive we ran curtain call at least 26 times. Insane, I know.

19.When you still know the choreography from past shows you have been in

20.No matter how stressful theater can get, it is the best decision you have ever made.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
