Growing up, we all have someone we look up to. If you’re lucky like me, that person is an older sister. My sister is seven years older than me, so she was always this mysterious and awesome human being to me. I used to watch her as she put on her makeup, straighten her hair, and text on her flip phone. She was everything I wanted to be.
I was always ready for major life changes because my sister was there to guide me through them. From losing friends, gaining new ones, and falling in love, my sister has always been there by my side. Just recently, when I had a hard weekend up at school, I called her on the phone crying and she said something to me that I will never forget.
After telling her, "I don’t know what I’d do without you," she replied, “You legit never have to worry about that; I’m forever by your side.” Immediately, I cried even more because I felt so relieved. How amazing is it to have a best friend that you know you’ll never lose? No matter how many stupid things I do, she still loves me; and whenever I succeed in life, she’s the first to congratulate me.
So, here is a list of things I’d like to thank her for.
- Thanks for letting me borrow your clothes, especially that army-green shirt that you’re never going to get back.
- Thank you for paying for our lunch dates, because I’m a broke college student and you have a big-girl job.
- Thanks for reading my rambling texts about the new boy I’m in love with. (We both know I fall in love at least 10 times a week.)
- Thank you for introducing me to the coolest music.
- Thanks for making my life easier; you argued with mom and dad so I didn’t have to.
