20 Things I Learned Before I Turned 20

Already 20? Here's a few things I've learned!

20 Things I Learned Before I Turned 20
Morgane Flynn

In a little over a month, I'll be turning 20-years-old. It's a strange feeling because turning 20 means that I am no longer a teenager, but I sure don't feel like an adult yet. I still don't know what I want to do with my life and I still spend a majority of my free time watching Netflix. Don't get me wrong, I still don't know where I'll be in five years and that's a little scary.

1. Time flies when you're having fun, or when you have an assignment due...

2. Sometimes when you're stressed it's OK to take a breather and just dance it out.

3. People are going to try to label you, but you are the only one who can label you.

4. Travel as much as you can as far as you can. Take the opportunity to travel when it comes upon you. You never know when you'll have another opportunity to travel again.

5. It's OK to sing, even if you aren't good at it. Don't let other people bring you down. Sing in the car, in the shower, in your room. Let it out! Sing loud and proud!

6. Being shy is a waste of time. Speak up. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

7. Pizza is always a good idea, especially with toppings!

8. You're going to make mistakes. You are going to do stupid things. It's a part of growing up.

9. Late night drives with your friends are always fun.

10. It's OK to be sad sometimes. Things and people will hurt you and its OK to be sad and cry.

11. People will leave you behind. Don’t get caught up on the fact that they left.

12. Go after what you want. Work to get what you want. Don't wait for it to happen to you because it might not happen if you just sit back.

13. Smile! Smile because you’re happy and try to smile when you’re sad.

14. Not everything is your fault. Don’t blame yourself for everything.

15. Find love. Find love in someone or something. Find love in something you do. Find love in anything.

16. It's OK to be lazy once in a while. You deserve a day off to do nothing.

18. Don't lie. Don’t lie about what you did or who you did it with or to your family because you are only hurting yourself when you lie.

19. Always keep ice cream in the freezer. You never know when you'll need it. Its a great snack and you never know when you're going to cry during "Grey's Anatomy." Sometimes you just ice cream.

20. Be fun! If you don’t have fun every once in a while. Experience life! Don’t let life just pass you by. Live your life to the fullest. Have fun, laugh and enjoy it. Be happy and have a good time. Nothing really matters unless you enjoy what you are doing and surrounding yourself with friends and family. Have good times with better people.

I enjoyed my teenage years and learned a lot from them. My twenties hopefully I will learn how to not procrastinate and clean more often. I'm still learning, and will definitely continue learn something new every day as I happily (and excitedly) enter my twenties.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
