20 Things all College Students can do "instead" of Netflix.

As a College Student, I sometimes find myself with a lot of “free” time. Here, when I say free time, I mean time when I don't need to be doing homework or studying. It’s easy to get into habit and go to your old friend Netflix, but as a college student, these are the years where you should be experimenting with different activities, student clubs or organizations and really take the time to figure out who you are. Below are twenty things that you could do in your free time, that don't involve just Netflix:

Learn something new:

1. Learn how to Knit

2. Learn how to Ballroom dance

3. Learn how to sculpt-- hey maybe you're an artsy person

4. Learn how to to help out the community, and look into community service activities around campus

5. Learn how to HUG, most college campuses have kindness clubs where you basically learn how to be a better person.

Get Involved:

6. Go to a chess club

7. Join your school's PETA club, or compassion for animals club

8. Get a gym class membership, yoga or self defense classes are great ways to stay active!

9. Join the ~AMAZING~ Greek community by going through fraternity and sorority recruitment!! Basically just join greek life :)

10. Get an on or off campus job and make some money to help pay off all of that student debt.

Relax:

11. Paint

12. Draw

13. Read a book

14. Create a music playlist for the next time you go out

15. Cook dinner

16. Bake cookies for your roommate or yourself

17. Go hammocking

18. Go for a walk, this is a win/win, you get to relax and learn how to navigate around campus better

19. Take pictures of literally everything or anything

20. Write a poem or short story AND maybe get it published! Or start a blog!

(21) AND if all else fails….go on a study date with a friend, even though it's hard and sometimes boring to ONLY study, it's a fundamental aspect of college life, so why not make it fun with a good Mocha and an even better person.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
