I haven't met a Shonda Rhimes show I haven't loved, including the lesser known series "Private Practice." In 2007, the wonderful Shonda created "Private Practice" as a spinoff for her already budding sensation "Grey's Anatomy." The new show follows the fresh start of Addison Montgomery as she transitions from working in a hospital in Seattle to a small medical practice in Los Angeles.
Since the show ended two years ago, it's name isn't popping up on news feeds as much as it used to. For those who didn't watch it while it was live, here is a list of 20 reasons why it should be the source of your next binge-watching adventure.
1. The Queen of Passive Aggressive has stepped down from her throne.
Seeing Addison as someone other than the sole obstacle standing in the way of Meredith and Derek allows for fans to fall in love with her and root for her happiness, even if she doesn't always make it easy for herself.
2. The women are strong and don't care what anyone else thinks about it.
Not that we'd expect anything less from Shonda.
3. Which means the men are heartwarmingly accepting of the independence the women they love possess.
After they were set straight for trying to change them in the first place, of course.
4. Piz from "Veronica Mars" is a sensitive, and occasionally shirtless, midwife.
5. Your favorite "Pretty Little Liar," Lucy Hale, makes an appearance as a terrified teen mom.
6. Don’t even get me started about the crossover characters from Grey’s Anatomy.
Amelia Shepard is fabulous no matter what show she's on.
7. And "Scandal."
From tracksuits to pantsuits. Oh Millie, how far you've come.
And don’t forget Darby Staunchfield, who plays the complete opposite of her "Scandal" character Abby, a strong southern Christian with a high-risk pregnancy.
8. Speaking of scandal, there’s quite a lot of it.
9. And what always feels like too much tragedy.
10. But seeing people at their weakest and fighting to find a way to pick up the pieces, shows everyone how strong the characters, and viewers themselves, can be in the face of unthinkable disasters.
11. Shonda, as always, promotes women in control of their sexuality.
12. And allows us to see how we’re all a little broken.
13. Which reassures us that we’re not the only ones who don’t like dealing with our problems.
14. Charlotte King is the queen of sass.
Let me rephrase that, ALL of the sass that ever existed.
15. Amelia Shepard's character development is beautiful.
You’ll love Derek’s little sister even more after seeing how she got to where she is on "Grey's" right now.
16. She also shows everyone that it's OK to stand up to your family.
Derek is dreamy, but he's not the sun.
17. And is a great source of comic relief.
18. Don't forget the inspirational life quotes.
Though not given to us by Meredith, they're still as equally heart-wrenching and insightful.
19. It feels more like a family.
It’s a smaller practice, without the hierarchy of interns to residents to attendings, with fewer characters, and a deeper examination of everyone’s storylines.
So when they triumph, you triumph.
When they fall, you fall.
That’s what makes a family, and you’ll feel like you’re a part of theirs.
20. All six seasons are on Netflix.
That means no waiting for the next season, and no wondering what happens next after an inevitable Shonda Rhimes cliffhanger. So what are you waiting for?
