I am an adult. Wow, did I just say that? It's weird, right? This didn't really occur to me until recently, but that's how most people in the world see me now. I don't feel like an adult, so am I really qualified to be one? Sometimes it's just nice to hear that someone feels the same way you do. Here's some reassurance for those of you who are thriving, sinking, barely hanging on, or just a little confused.
1. “The heart was made to be broken.” - Oscar Wilde
You're not the only one who's hurting, it's OK. You're a lot tougher than you think, I promise.
2. “Creativity is knowing how to hide your sources” - C.E.M. Joad
Really, though, isn't that all research is?
3. “Hate the sin, love the sinner.” - Mahatma Gandhi
Our world seems so full of hate and disrespect. Don't let your personal beliefs and values affect the respect you have for other humans.
4. “Sometimes it's a form of love just to talk to somebody that you have nothing in common with and still be fascinated by their presence.” - David Byrne
Whether or not your relationship with them is romantic, I urge you to find this person.
5. “When you take risks you learn that there will be times when you succeed and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important.” - Ellen Degeneres
The sweetest success truly does come from the most bitter failures.
6. “You cannot find peace by avoiding life.” - Virginia Woolf
Avoiding life only makes you a part of the problem, so be an active participant in finding a solution.
7. “Don't think money does everything or you are going to end up doing everything for money." - Voltaire
It's not worth being unhappy and overwhelmed just to get that paycheck. Do what you enjoy and find a career that doesn't feel like work—it's worth all the money in the world.
8. “Whenever [you] feel the need to exercise, lie down until it goes away.” - Paul Terry
Some days you just have to skip the gym, and that's OK. Have an extra piece, slice, scoop, or serving of something sugary today—treat yourself!
9. "Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn." - C.S. Lewis
Nobody likes feeling out of their element, but you have to start somewhere. Take your turn at the bottom of the totem pole—don't wait another day to start your "real world" experience because you're too scared.
10. “You need to make time for your family no matter what happens in your life” - Silver Linings Playbook
Whether you see them every day or only on special occasions, don't take them for granted...no matter how dysfunctional they may be.
11. “A person who has not done one half his day's work by ten o'clock, runs a chance of leaving the other half undone.” - Emily Bronte
Whoever said sleep is overrated was incorrect; sometimes you just have to check in early.
12. “It's such a shame to waste time. We always think we have so much of it.” - Mitch Albom, "For One More Day"
How many times have you sat in class and counted the minutes until it was over? Or stared at the clock until it was time for your lunch break? Let's stop treating time like it's disposable and start making the most of it.
13. “Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.” - Mark Twain
This is kind of ironic after what I just said about not wasting time, but let's be honest, sometimes you just need to procrastinate without feeling bad about it.
14. "It's crazy what a heart blinded by love can lead you to believe." - Jourdane Erasquin
Do what is best for you. There is absolutely no need to feel like you should be settling down, no matter what everyone else is doing.
15. “But magic is like pizza: even when it's bad, it's pretty good." - Neil Patrick Harris
Pizza will always be there for you. Never forget that.
16. “One friend with whom you have a lot in common is better than three with whom you struggle to find things to talk about.” - Mindy Kaling, "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?"
Quality over quantity. Don't get hung up on how many friends other people have, learn to be content.
17. “We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once.” - Friedrich Nietzsche
Because even if you can't dance, you should on a regular basis.
18. “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable!” - Jillian Michaels
This is the time to explore, try new things, and just be shamelessly spontaneous.

We've all been there before.
20. "We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." - E.M. Forster
There is so much more in store for you than you think, and you absolutely deserve it.
