20 Promises Seniors Should Make

And probably keep.

I remember when I was just a little, baby freshman in college 3 years ago. I was skinnier, way more naive and different than the person that is sitting here writing this today.

To say that I am sad about being a senior in college would be the understatement of the year, and I'm sure that just about every senior feels the same way.

Coming into college feels a lot different than leaving college. Maybe because you are becoming an adult? Maybe it's because you are going into this world for the first time? Maybe it's because the weekends are going to be spent drinking and nursing hangovers? Or, honestly, maybe it's all of the above?

Going into the last year of college has got to be the scariest and saddest thing. Everything that the seniors have worked towards comes down to this year: thesis, job opportunities, endless presentations and nights with friends that will never be forgotten.

Here is a list of things I want to promise myself I'll complete in my senior year of college:

1. I promise to go out with my sisters, even when all I want to do is snuggle.

2. I promise to have movie nights when one of my housemates doesn't want to go out.

3. I promise to do things with confidence.

4. I promise to complete my thesis and actually write it.

5. I promise to only allow myself two freak-outs a week when doing my thesis (housemates hold me accountable for this).

6. I promise to not stress myself out over everything.

7. I promise to make more time for my sisters.

8. I promise to clean my room.

9. I promise to do laundry once a week so that I have clean clothes.

10. I promise to be a part of my community and not just sit back.

11. I promise to appreciate those that help me.

12. I promise to help the freshman that think they have class on the third floor of Hopwood.

13. I promise to cook dinner for my little's and to make time for them before I graduate.

14. I promise to make time to exercise to de-stress myself.

15. I promise to not procrastinate (as much).

16. I promise to make the best of this year no matter how sad, happy, mad or stressed out I am.

17. I promise to not forget where I came from when making plans for after graduation.

18. I promise to make the most of every opportunity that is going to come my way in the next year.

19. I promise to not take anything for granted.

20. I promise to fall in love with myself as I grow into a true adult in this coming year.

Seniors, this year is going to be filled with a lot of tears and a lot of happiness. We are going to experience so many different things this year and if there is one thing that we need to know, it's that we cannot take this year for granted. We need to take everything in and we need to enjoy this last year of true freedom. The world is ours... But first? We need to walk across that stage to get our $45,000 piece of paper.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
