There are a lot of phrases that we use in our everyday lives that don’t actually make much sense when you actually think about them. Here are a few:

1. "I’m not the type of person to post these kind of things but…"

Every so often you’ll log onto Facebook and see that one of your friends has posted a status that is preceded with “I’m not the type to post this kind of thing,” followed by a rant, venting, etc. No, you’re definitely that type of person. You are literally doing it right now.

2. "No offense, but"

People act like saying “no offense” grants you complete immunity. That you can say whatever you want simply because you made the disclaimer that there was no offense intended. No offense is almost always followed by a highly offensive statement.

3. "I could care less"

This one is almost always used incorrectly. This implies that you could in fact care less. I couldn’t care less indicates complete lack of interest, which is probably how most of you are feeling about this article.

4. "Where did you leave it last?"

Do you think I know that? If I remembered where I put it, I wouldn’t be frantically looking for it.

5. "It is what it is"

Right. What else could it be?

6. "Just saying"

The cousin of “no offense.” An unsuccessful means of trying to make your insult less insulting.

7. "ATM machine"

ATM stands for automated teller machine. A second machine is not necessary. I’m gonna go back to writing this article article.

8. "To be honest"

Are you telling me everything you have said before this has been a lie?

9. "Needless to say"

Hey look you’re saying something, even though you just said it didn’t need to be said.

10. "This person needs no introduction."

Almost always followed by a very lengthy introduction full of compliments and appraisal.

11. "I hate to be that person, but"

But you are, in fact, that person that I hate.

12. "No judgment here, but"

But now I’m going to go on and judge the hell out of you.

13. "I’m not a racist, but"

But here is something very offensive that proves I am in fact a racist.

14. "How do I say this?"

By using your mouth to make words, to form a sentence and a coherent thought.

15. "With all due respect,"

Prepare to be completely disrespected

16. "I, personally…"

Are you a sociopath that has other personalities?

17. "YOLO"

Correct. Every human ever has one had one life.

18. "At the end of the day..."

Well you can also say it at 2 p.m.

19. "Let me tell you something."

Well we are having a conversation, so I would hope you’re going to say something as opposed to just sitting in silence.

20. "Just do what you love"

Trust me, if I could make drinking beer and watching football my source of income I most definitely would.
