It’s no secret that little kids seem to have no worries in the world, and as a college student that is something to be jealous of. I have a 3-year-old niece and a 1-year-old nephew who spend their days learning their colors, shapes, and letters while I spend mine learning a logarithmic equation and trying to figure out what’s morally right and wrong. However, over the last 2 weeks I have gotten to spend a little extra time with these two, and by watching them and seeing them every day, they have actually taught me a lot of things about life that I think are important. These are just a few of these “life lessons” I have learned from these two.
- Find the beauty in the world around you; it’s not as hard as you might think.
- Appreciate the little things. (Even if the little 'thing' is just a dress)
- Love with your whole heart.
- Compliment people for being themselves. (Ex: "You look so beautiful Mommy!" When Mommy was just in her PJ's.)
- Dancing in the living room is actually a great way to spend a Saturday night (or every night, really).
- It’s okay to aspire to be a Disney princess.
- Smiling (even toothless) is contagious.
- Hugs and kisses can be the perfect remedy for a bad day.
- Being kind to others should be instinct and anger doesn’t make anything better.
- Laughter is the best medicine.
- Little girls can get even the toughest men wrapped around their finger. (My dad, my boyfriend, my brother-in-law...)
- Remember to be sweet.
- It’s not always easy or fun to share, but sometimes you have to.
- Having patience for others isn’t always easy, but it’s something we all need to learn.
- A word as simple as “Hi” can make someone smile.
- Cuddles should always be welcome.
- You can always overdo it when it comes to eating too many treats. (My nephew has become his generations Cookie Monster)
- Learning new things shouldn’t be considered a chore.
- Making messes is only fun when you aren’t the one picking it up.
- Be with someone who loves being with your family as much as you do.
As I get older, I realize the things I want out of life and although their priorities aren’t always the same as mine, they are always there to teach me what is important in life.
