I have been a retail worker for 3 years now and I love my job, but there are some things that really irk us.
Here's some of the struggles of being a retail worker.
1. When you greet a customer and they don't say "hello".
No? Okay.. that's fine.
2. When you just fixed a table and a customer is already messing it up.
No, that's okay. That's what I get paid to do anyway.
3. When a customer brings a whole bunch of clothes into the dressing room and doesn't want any of them.
Oh, and they leave them inside the dressing room.. ah, my favorite.
4. When the big boss comes in and you have to be amazing at your job and wear all of your jobs labels.
Stylin' and profilin', am I right?
5. Working a holiday when everyone has off.
The pay of time and a half is great but when everyone is gloating about being off and having fun, we would rather be somewhere other than the store.
6. When a customer is just plain rude.
I'm here to help you, put the 'tude away.
7. When a coworker asks you to take their shift on your day off.
Hey, you get paid by the hour right? How bad can it be? Until you walk into total chaos..
8. When a customer asks you if you work in the store.
No, I don't. I'm just wearing this name tag and headset for fun.
9. Customers that walk in right before close.
You just finished sweeping the floors, the gate is half down and a customer HAS to check out the store 2 minutes before closing time.
10. When you open and it's extremely slow.
It's 10am on a Tuesday.. nobody wants to come shop just yet. Awesome, right? Nope, that's when the boredom sets in.
11. When you get poked with a sensor.
Oh, it's not that bad.. until you do it multiple times and it draws blood.
12. Shipment.
You get super excited when the store gets new clothes, until your boss tells you to go in the back and do the shipment (aka death by the unpacking and breaking down of hundreds of boxes and separating the items inside).
13. Working long shifts without a break.
The thirst and hunger are real.. Is it time to leave yet?
14. When a customer gets wordy with you after you tell them wrong information or something they don't like.
You're thinking it but you know you can't say it..
15. BLACK FRIDAY.
The most wonderful time of the year for retail workers..
16. When a customer asks you to get you something off top shelf.
I can't be the only one who hates climbing to the top of the ladder for a pair of jeans at the top of the wall.
17. Trying to make your sales for the day.
Your shifts about to end and you have to make your day, butter up that customer!
18. "I left my coupon at home, do you have another one I could use?"
How many times do you think I've heard that one before..?
19. When your shift finally ends.
The most anticipated moment of the day.
20. Payday.
There is no better feeling than when that direct deposit hits your bank account.
In the end, we really do love our job.
