We wait all year to get to our beloved two-month break; and when we finally get it, it definitely lives up to the hype. Whether it’s a crazy vacation, an exotic study abroad, or just laying out by the pool, we all have the things we look forward to. But there comes a time amidst all of the tanning, eating, and Netflix binging when you can’t help but miss the comfort of your college town. When you start coordinating your eating and sleeping schedule with your perspective class schedule you know you’ve hit it: The Summer Slump.
You have your new apartment/dorm setup completely figured out
Maybe it’s just bedding and a futon, or maybe it’s your color coordinating curtains and bedside table- either way, you know when you move in it has to look exactly how you want it.
You’ve memorized your new schedule
You have either avoided the dreaded 8am, or you’re preparing yourself for a lot of nights-out-turned-class-time. No matter what, you have that MWF/TTH timing drilled into your head.
You don’t know what to do with your days
Once you’ve gotten used to your part-time job (or lack thereof) and tanning doesn't seem like the most important thing to achieve that summer glow, you get to the point where you don’t even have any new shows on your Netflix list. (But then it’s time to invest in HBO now.)
You start baking or cooking new things
Too much time on Pinterest has evolved into real life, terrifying creations of upside down cake and “exciting” new kale creations that tend to end up resembling dog food? Or maybe that's just me?
You miss your friends from school
Home friends are awesome and they’ve been your go-to all your life, but the people you meet in college tend to feel like the people that know you well now.
You want food from one specific place
Whether it’s 2 A.M. cookies from Insomnia, a late night at The Grill, or queso from Taco Stand, you have that one food that sticks out from all the rest that you just can’t get at home. (Shoutout to Athens, though.)
You start looking back fondly at your late nights studying
The familiar ambiance of your school's student center calls to you like no Starbucks ever will. This one comes when you know you're ready to go back to school; sitting around is great and all, but having a purpose and getting work for that annoying hour and a half class is at least satisfying.
You want to get back to living on your own
Parents are awesome, they raised you and everything, but living on your own lends so much freedom to life that you don't even realize was there until you move back home for a few months.
You realize FOOTBALL SEASON is coming
The most important season of the year is coming, outfits are planned, tailgates are coming, and most Importantly: Your team’s going to kill it this year. Hopefully.
School pride is stronger than ever
Pulling back into your town after a few months away is like a breath of fresh air. Putting it simply: It’s a return to the best years of your life.
It's the best time of the year, but summer is nothing like being back at school. You're almost there; keep tanning, eating, and TV binging but get ready to go back home, people!
