In my nineteen years here on earth, I have learned a lot of things. Some simple like how to read, write, ride a bike, drive a car, and file for student loans(unfortunately). Although these have all been important, there are some things you realize that are life changing. Here are the 19 most important things I have learned so far.
1. You can't win everything. Whether it be homecoming queen, MVP of your sports team, or recipient of that scholarship you really wanted, you can't win it all. But that's what makes your other accomplishments more valuable.
2. You'll give up impressing people in college. Unlike high school, nobody cares what you look like or what you do in college. Wear your pajamas to class. Don't wash your hair for 3 days. Really nobody cares.
3. You won't talk to all those friends you had in high school. You'll be lucky to keep in touch with three of them. If they do survive through college, cherish them, because those are the friends that will stick around for life.
4. Cherish your teachers from preschool to senior year. When you get to college with 200 people in your class, your teacher won't even remember your name. Cherish those teachers who really got to know you and invested their time in you, because it will go away in the blink of an eye.
5. You'll miss high school. College doesn't have spirit week, Friday night lights, or bus rides to away games. You'll miss eating lunch with your friends every day and hanging out after school every week.
6. You'll love college.
7. You'll gain so many friends in college. Whether they're in your class, sorority, or you guys live across the hall from each other,
8. You'll also lose friends in college. Just like in high school, you'll find who your group is in college. You'll have so many friends, but you'll only have a few close ones. Also, it sucks, but you'll lose friends in college too.
9. Your best friend won't always stay in your life. Sometimes you go down different paths and become different people. It sucks, but it's okay.
10. The nights you can actually remember will be what you look back on. Whether it be a girl's night spent watching Netflix, or a bonfire with your best friends, that will be what you look back on, not that huge party you went to.
11. You'll almost never regret going out, but you will regret staying in. Going out with your friends will almost always bring memories that you will cherish, but staying in won't.
12. 12 AM Waffle House Trips are always worth it. Especially if you're craving hash browns. Whether it's 12 AM, 3 AM or 4 in the afternoon, Waffle House is always a good idea.
13. That heartbreak you thought you would never get through won't hurt in a few years. Sooner or later you'll be able to look at those pictures and won't feel anything and won't be sad about it.
14. Your mom is always right about people's intentions. Whether it be about a friend or a boy, your mom always knows their intentions even before you realize it. You should listen to her more often.
15. Your family will be there through everything. Even when you're at your lowest and feel like you have nobody, your family will always be there for you to fall back on. Don't take them for granted.
16. Siblings make the best friends. Sure, you may fight like cats and dogs all the time, but when you grow up you'll see that they become the truest friends you could have and they will always have your back, no matter what.
17. Your dog will also be one of your best friends. Also the best snuggle partner you could ask for.
18. You don't have to have everything figured out in high school. If I knew exactly what I wanted to do in high school, I wouldn't have changed my mind about my major three times. It's okay not to know.
19. You'll end up exactly where you need to be. Whether it be with school, your career, or your friends, you'll find your place and it will all work out.
