19 Questions For Age 19
Lindsey

Over the past year, I have watched each of my best friends turn 19 years old. They have gone from their first year in adulthood to their second, now patiently waiting to escape their teenage years. Each one came, and every time I thought, "hmmm I'm glad it's them and not me." For some reason, 19 has not done its job of attracting me AT ALL. Besides the month of birthday celebrations that comes with a new age, I am so not prepared to "adios amigo" my 18th year.

I, along with my parents and grandparents, will admit that time is flying! This 19th year has crept up on me, and I am so flustered. You know when your ride honks their horn but you still have sleep in your eyes with unbrushed teeth? Well, my ride is 19 and it is knocking on my door, but I'm still in my "18" jammies!!

Since I would much rather turn 19 than not turn 19, I'm quickly throwing on my "19" shorts and tee to run out the door with it! I hope the ride will be adventurous, successful, and maybe even a little spontaneous, but being the cynical girl I am, I'm not getting in any cars without a few questions.

19, tell me what you know...

1. Where are we going?

2. When I am tired, will you let me rest and stop to refuel?

3. Are we picking up anyone else along the way?

4. How long will they be with us? Please, don't offer anyone hurtful a ride.

5. Can I pick the music?

6. Will the food be decent?

7. Are you going to introduce me to any new favorites?

8. Have you packed my favorite outfits?

9. Do you promise you have my pink shoes?

10. When it gets dark outside, can we stop and stare at the stars? You know, kind of like smelling the roses, but at night.

11. Did you get me any insightful reads? I like words- insightful ones.

12. How many lessons am I going to have to learn for our destination?

13. What are our goals?

14. Do you have a game plan to achieve them?

15. Are we going to focus on faith too?

16. Are you going to let me win at the road trip games? Life is my favorite!

17. What are the jokes like? I like to laugh. A lot. (Just don't make any of them on me!)

18. Did you remember the camera? I have a feeling this'll need to be documented.

19. When you drop me off at twenty, will I be ready?

I do realize that I am not turning 40, and this really is not that big of a deal, but I loved being 18. The reason I do not want to turn 19? Well, if you count it out with me, I am pretty sure twenty follows. TWENTY!! I've never hated a word more than "teenager", but you better believe I plan on soaking in the next 365 TEENAGE days! This is me clicking my seat belt for my ride with 19 — here we go!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
