With the holiday season just wrapping up, it has become clear to me that the new generation of kids has many different options for toys and gadgets. There are now iPhones and Hoverboards and tablets for all ages. With all of these new things, I have done a lot of thinking about what my generation had. We had toys, gadgets, and other unique things just for our generation. With the help of my roommates, I compiled a list of various items that were specific to the 90s.
1. Gameboy
One of the best toys from my childhood hands down. With the multitude of games you could insert, the Gameboy was a classic for all kids.
2. Polly Pockets
For girls, if you had Polly Pockets, you had it all. They were cute and could fit right in your pocket (hence the name “Polly POCKET”).
3. Shrinky Dinks
A great little idea that made it easy to create your own trinkets.
4. Hit Clips
Want tunes on the go? Hit clips were the perfect way to listen to your favorite songs.
5. Tooth Tunes
Who wouldn’t want to listen to music while they brush their teeth?
6. Tamagotchi
The first step to taking care of something. With Tamagotchi, you were in control of feeding and taking care of your little pet.
7. AIM messenger
Before texting, there was instant messaging. This was our first line of communication in elementary school with our friends. And with AIM, you had to have a super cool name like sportygirl1994 or footballer55.
8. MP3 Players
Before iPod, there were MP3 players. These were the basic versions just meant to hold all of your music.
9. The feud over Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC
It's an endless battle. You are either team Backstreet Boys or team *NSYNC, there is no in between.
10. Young Britney Spears
"Oops I Did It Again" or "Lucky" were played on repeat for our generation. Britney was a popular artist of the time period.
11. Candy Land
Who doesn’t love a good old board game? Back when we were kids, Candy Land was the usual game for parties.
12. "Mary-Kate and Ashley"
From TV shows to movies, "Mary-Kate and Ashley" were the dynamic duo of our generation. They even had Barbies made after them.
13. Wonder Balls
The wonderful treat with a surprise inside.
14. Carpet Sliders
Because let’s face it, who didn’t want to slide around the carpet?
15. Limited Too
The wonderful and glorious store of Limited Too. From skorts to jumpers, that store had all of the trendy outfits every kid wanted.
16. American Girl dolls
These weren’t just your average baby dolls. They were so much more. With the combination of Bitty Babies, the American Girl Company supplied kids of our generation with all of their doll needs.
17. "The Amanda Show"
Before Amanda Bynes went crazy, "The Amanda Show" kept us laughing with adolescent humor.
18. Zoboomafoo
Another show that was constantly playing each morning was Zoboomafoo. The show taught kids about different animals around the world.
19. Skip It
A fun and entertaining toy for kids to enjoy outside, but be careful not to hit your anklebone!
