Being in a relationship, while fun, isn't always what it's cracked up to be. It has its flaws, so let’s expose a few of them and see just how much easier being single can be (if you can deal with the crippling loneliness).
1. No more sharing blankets!
You get all of the covers. You don’t wake up freezing cold while your partner is snuggly wrapped in the warm blanket, like an adorably inconsiderate mummy.
2. License to watch terrible television.
If you’re watching a terrible romantic comedy film, you’re doing so at your own discretion. You wanted to watch "License To Wed," and you take full responsibility for this decision.
3. Never experiencing lengthy deliberations about what to eat for dinner. It’s hard to hold discussions on an empty stomach, especially when its growls are drowning out the sound of your significant other’s voice. As a single person, if you want Chipotle, boom, you get Chipotle. But let’s be honest who doesn't want Chipotle? And if they don’t, why are you even dating them?
4. Freed mental capacities.
A large chunk of memory space is freed up because you aren’t filling it with anniversary dates or your lover’s trivial details like favorite flavor of ice cream, or their middle name or whatever.
5. Unabashed flirting.Flirting is permitted and you don’t have to feel guilty or terrible for doing it. Bat those lashes, give that wink and the finger point gun...okay, maybe not that last one. In my experience, that doesn’t work.
6. You don't have to do anything...ever.
The ability to be as disgusting and lazy as you’d like. Eat in bed, binge on Netflix, don’t go outside. Do all of this while never having your motives questioned.
7. Social media freedom.
You can follow whoever you like on social media without having your motives questioned. Who cares if they are a celebrity that posts mostly revealing pictures, you obviously are just following them because they post the occasional funny Tumblr post.
8. Time management.
You’re the boss of your own oh-so-valuable time. Not assistant or co-manager, you’re the head honcho. You can distribute hours, minutes and seconds on things you value. That means fulfilling the activities you always wanted to do, like finally watching "Breaking Bad" so that you can be in the loop.
9. The option of doing whatever you please, whenever you desire is there.
Obviously you can do things even in a relationship, but spontaneous trips or impromptu invites out can be attended without someone uncomfortably frowning upon your choice or slowing down the process.
10. No worries about faithfulness.
There’s no worrying about who is attending their girls'/guys' night, why they haven’t text back, or if you should be concerned.
11. Holiday travel plans just became easier.
The tough decision of whose family will be visited for holidays doesn’t have to be made. Enough said.
12. Google to your heart's content.
Your web browsing history is under zero scrutiny. There’s no need to explain yourself, especially for the accidental typos or things you try to pass off as typos...
13. Strong lipstick game welcome.
You can wear whatever lipstick you want without someone complaining about it being all over everything. The glasses, silverware, pillowcases, their face, etc.
14. No sharing.
That last slice of pizza is yours. No "ifs,” "ands,” or "buts” about it. And none of that “Oh no you can have it," “Honestly," “Are you sure?” or “Want to share it?” nonsense.
15. No pointless jealousy.
Every unisex name in your phone contacts won’t be asked about. The fact that Jamie, the gender-neutral friend, won’t lead to an investigation should count for something.
16. Freedom to change at a whim.
Life-altering decisions like job opportunities, or cross-country moves can be completed without having to worry about its impact on two people. Mostly, you just have to worry about the impact it will have on your bank account.
17. You can marry that celebrity crush you have.
The far-fetched dreams of running into and falling in love with your celebrity crushes are slightly more fathomable. I mean...Hugh Jackman and I totally have a chance.
18. You become a better person.
You learn to rely on yourself. So even when you do finally find the right person, you don’t have to lose yourself.
