18 Things To Look Forward To When Coming Back To Tuscaloosa
Madison Holmes

Until you survive (yes, survive) your first summer at home after being away at school, you won't realize how much you really miss Tuscaloosa. Tuscaloosa became home for 10 months and after living with your parents again you begin to realize how much you miss every little bit of it. Here's a few of the most missed things-just to name a few.

1. Your roommates

No matter if you’re close with your roommates or not, these are the people you lived with for an entire year and people who you came home to every night. Whether you liked them or not, they were definitely missed.

2. The Quad

Walks on the Quad cannot be beat. Whether it’s sunny or rainy, the Quad is always packed with squirrels and students. Sometimes the Health Center or other organizations are giving out free treats too! Even when game days come through and trash our beautiful green quad, it’s still one of our favorite places.

3. El Ricon

For the tacos of course.

4. Rounders

Nothing at home compares to the Boom Boom Room. Summers at home are boring, and everyone misses a good night out at Rounders.

5. Buffalo Phils

While being a poor college student isn’t fun, we missed spending our remaining Bama cash on Buffalo Chicken Dip. Also the easy, walkable distance to just about everything makes it a perfect place to eat with all your friends when you have nothing but

6. Football Season

Having a pretty decent football team isn’t so bad either. And Alabama fans are always ready to brag and get decked out in crimson and white. Tuscaloosa shuts down for football games, and let’s be real: football is our number one priority at Alabama.

7. Tuscaloosa Sunsets

Tuscaloosa sunsets are always beautiful. No doubt that God loves Tuscaloosa.

8. No judgment for wearing XL shirts and nike shorts every.single.day

If you wear anything more than this to class, you’re considered overdressed but when you’re at home you look homeless or very confused when going out in public in such “srat” attire.

9. Seeing Alabama gear no matter where you go

No one at home loves the University of Alabama as much as people in Alabama (Every car, every house, everywhere, everything-Alabama)

10. Your apartment/dorm

Your own place, with your own this and your own that: something that you definetly took for granted all year.

11. Your freedom

Self explanatory: college is a time to find who you are and how to take care of yourself. You realize how independent you’ve become and you miss not having curfew and being able to be your own boss.

12. The frats

We’ve missed the megamansions known as fraternities. Whether it was swaps, or date parties, fraternity houses were the places to be.

13. Your sorority house

Have you ever seen sorority houses at Alabama? Yeah, now you know why we’ve missed them.

14. Date parties

Whether you bring the same date, get randomly paired, or go with your friends, date parties never disappointed and were something to always look forward to.

15. Crimson2Go

This was the reason we were all poor and fat as freshmen, but also was great to have when it was raining or you would just be too lazy to get out of bed.

16. Our 16 natty champs

We love to brag, and we love being part of the legacy of Alabama.

17. Being with your friends 24/7

You never leave your friends side. Whether you’re going to the grocery store, or going to the library, you’re always with your friends and being away all summer has made you miss doing even the smallest things with your friends.

18. “Roll Tide”

The greatest saying of all time and an acceptable phrase to just about anything.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
