The perpetually single girl is kind of a rare breed: she's probably been in a relationship before, but has been single for quite a while. Her friends move from relationship to relationship, or work to deepen one significant relationship, but her priorities are elsewhere. Here are 17 things every perpetually single girl knows to be true.
1. Her friends post photos of their significant others on date night, and she wishes it were socially acceptable to post updates of her dog and Netflix once a week.

2. She’ll give anyone a chance, but she’s not going to settle for a relationship she isn’t sure about. She’s waited way too long to be happy with a frog when she’s looking for a prince.
3. She has younger siblings/cousins/friends that have been in more relationships than her. Yes, she's well aware. No, that doesn't make her feel bad about herself.
4. She doesn’t spend her days pining away for a knight in shining armor to save her.
She’s learned to take care of herself. So, if Mr. Right comes along, awesome. If not, that’s okay, too.
5. She’s a pro at third-wheeling, and she definitely knows how to act in a room full of couples without looking like the odd (wo)man out. Oh, and she doesn’t mind forcing her friends and their S.O.’s to include her.
6. If she were to ever start dating someone, she wouldn't even know how to tell people. But, word of advice, if she tells you, don't act too shocked.
7. She’s super comfortable doing things alone, and doesn't expect anyone else to treat her.
She pumps her own gas, buys herself earrings, and gives herself Valentine's Day chocolates. No big deal.
8. She knows grandma (and every other relative) will still ask every visit if she’s “found a boy” yet. You’d think after a couple years they’d give up, but no.
9. Her parents have (either happily or unhappily) realized they’ve got to rely on their other kids if they want grandbabies anytime soon.
And, she probably has jokingly told them, at least once or twice, to adopt a baby of their own.
10. Her friends come to her for unbiased relationship advice. Her opinions aren’t skewed by her own love.
11. She doesn’t feel guilty about spending an entire day in her pajamas watching movies.
And no one is pressuring her to do otherwise.
12. She’s had close experiences with some really horrible relationships, so she probably knows exactly what she doesn’t want. While consoling her friends through breakups, she’s learned just how tough relationships can be, and how they can turn ugly super quickly.
13. And, she’s seen some beautiful relationships grow, so she may know exactly what she does want. Honesty, communication, and fun are key.
14. Every time one of her friends gets engaged, she lets herself feel alone/sad/unloved for about five minutes before snapping out of it.
She may not even want to get married, she probably just wants to plan a wedding.
15. She doesn’t even really know how to date. Like, what do you talk about? Who pays? So many questions.
16. She dates vicariously through her Netflix shows.
Haley and Nathan from One Tree Hill? Monica and Chandler on Friends? Chuck and Blair from Gossip Girl? Her emotions match theirs.
17. She has days where she feels unappealing and awkward, but she also has days where she feels like the strong, independent woman she is. There’s strength in balance.
