If you have an older sister who was pretty close in age to you, you probably experienced times of seemingly endless arguments, days of not speaking to one another, or just plain weirdness. But through all of it, you can still come together and say that sisterly love never goes away even when things get tough. Now that I'm older and my sister is married, I've had the chance to reflect and laugh at what growing up with my older sister was like. She and I now are the best of friends because we grew up and learned to appreciate each other despite the past. Here's 17 truths of what having an older sister growing up was like.
1. Free wardrobe perks. Need I say more?
2. Your older sister calling you out in front of friends as she spotted that you stole her shirt. #caught
3. You had a buddy to watch endless Disney or Chick-flicks.
4. You can be your weird self around her.
5. Your sister would get annoyed that you copied her. (But she never knew that it was the highest form of a compliment.)
6. She gets you even when you don’t make sense
7. She will always help you in your time of need.
8. You always want to hang out with your sister's older friends because they seemed so cool and mature but you never quite fit in.
9. You get the good advice because your sister already experienced it all
10. You were always “so and so’s sister” when you went to the same school. (Did they even know your real name?)
11. You’ve gotten used to people mistaking you for twins when you're most definitely not.

12. You can ugly-cry in front of her with no shame.
Because that's what sisters are for: ugly crying together.
13. Hand me downs were like shopping sprees because you know she had good tastes.
14. You fought about absurd things growing up like using her blow-dryer without asking.
15. You may fight but you always come back to each other because the bond of sisters is stronger than any argument.
16. You will always have a role model and biggest supporter through thick and thin.
17. You will always have a life-long friend who you can have endless amounts of coffee dates and heart-to-hearts.
Thank you sisters. You have always been there for us when we needed you most and us young 'uns appreciate you more than you know!
