New Year's Eve leaves two thoughts on everyone's mind: Am I going to get a New Year's kiss, and if so who is it going to be with? People stress over this thought thus resulting in finding the perfect New Year's outfit that is flashy enough while still remaining classy that will certainly seal the deal to a kiss at midnight whilst holding a glass of champagne in their hand. It’s this absurd expectation, yet so many people fall under the pressure to uphold the expectation of bringing in the new year with a significant other or fellow party goer. Well, here are 17 things to think of on New Year's Eve instead of if you’re going to share a smooch with someone when the ball drops:
1. How a year has passed and how far you have come since 365 days ago.
2. The happiest day you had in 2015.
3. The day that made you think the hardest.
4. The saddest day and how (hopefully) you feel a lot better than how you felt in that moment.
5. The time you laughed the hardest.
6. Possible New Year's resolutions that will probably end up being broken. As long as you make them, you still are taking a step in the right direction.
7. What you thought you would be doing by now last New Year's.
8. How lucky you are to spend New Year's with whoever you surround yourself with: friends, family, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc.
9. A moment that you were proud of yourself in 2015.
10. What you want to accomplish within the next year.
11. An instance that you were disappointed with yourself this past year, and what you can do so that does not happen again in the new year.
12. The quality people that you have present in your life on a day-to-day basis. If you can’t see someone being a positive influence on you, cut the ties. There’s no better time to start fresh than the beginning to a new year.
13. Put aside the resolution; I think they are highly overrated. Instead, come up with something small and simple to do every day. Such as, give thanks every night to something that happened that day.
14. Make peace with anything that is dragging you down. You don’t want to start the new year with someone or something holding you back.
15. Take a deep breath and try find yourself comfortable with where you are at in life: emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally. Comfortable doesn’t mean satisfied; if you want to change something now is your chance.
16. Tell people what you think of them. Tell someone you miss them, that you love them, that you appreciate them, and that you’re grateful for them. You never know when you won’t be able to say those things again.
17. Most importantly, be confident and content when ringing in the new year. If you don’t have anyone to smooch, don’t fret. You still are holding a glass of champagne that needs to be finished, so drink and have a happy New Year!
