Coming all the way to Penn State from Los Angeles, I experienced the biggest culture shock of a lifetime and spent the entirety of last year year adjusting. Now that I’ve adjusted and picked up on some new habits, I noticed some telltale signs that always set me apart from my East Coast friends:
- You’re almost always late.
- You wear boots when it’s hot out.
- But have never owned a pair of Timbs.
- You crave sushi.
- And laugh at what other people call Mexican food.
- You probably pull out your North Face in October.
- You know all about the Valley-West Side rivalry.
- And you know the Valley is better.
- You use “like”, “totally”, and “literally” on a regular basis.
- You’re a really good driver.
- As long as there’s no snow, rain, or fog.
- You dress up when you go to class.
- You get asked if you know any celebrities on a regular basis.
- You know the difference between a freeway and highway.
- But have no clue what a turnpike is.
- Not being tan pains you.
- And you are likely to get seasonal depression.
