17 Signs You Are A Middle-Aged Woman Stuck In A Twenty-Year-Old Body

As a freshman in college, going out every night with all of your friends seems like the best way to spend your first year.

Many times I heard the phrase: “you can re-take a class, but you can’t re-live a memory.” I am 99 percent sure that the person who came up with that quote took six years to finally graduate, and is now living with his or her parents.

As a freshman, the majority of my friends were going out every night so I would tag along to not feel excluded. While I was out with the group, I would always get bored and eventually leave around midnight.

By the time I became a sophomore, I finally realized it was socially acceptable to stay home on a Friday night. I started going out less and less, and I discovered new hobbies and interests to spend my time.

I also had more time to take care of my living space. My lifestyle soon began to resemble that of a 40-year-old housewife, rather than a stereotypical college student.

Now, just because I don't go out as much, it does not make me a boring homebody. I still have my fun, but in different ways. I did discover that it is also fun to stay in and watch Fixer Upper, and have eight complete hours of sleep.

Here are some signs you are also a middle-aged woman stuck in a 20-year-old body:

  1. Your television is constantly on HGTV or Food Network.
  2. You buy candles in bulk from Anthropologie.
  3. You asked for an expensive knife set last Christmas.
  4. You get giddy walking into Home Goods or Pottery Barn.
  5. Instead of hitting up the bars, you are getting eight or more hours of sleep.
  6. You probably want a cat, or already have one.
  7. You are the designated driver when your friends go out.
  8. Your maternal instincts kick in when you hear a baby crying.
  9. Your friends come to you for relationship advice.
  10. Gardening seems like a fun hobby.
  11. Your going out outfits would be acceptable church attire.
  12. Your dream is to one day own a Dyson vacuum.
  13. You have a dream kitchen board on Pinterest.
  14. You have a list on your phone of your future kids’ names.
  15. You do your laundry at least once or twice a week.
  16. You know how to properly cook a Thanksgiving turkey.
  17. You have a plethora of teas for your Keurig.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
