I was fortunate enough to grow up right down the road from my grandparents. I was also fortunate enough to say that they served as another set of parents for me. And although the generation gap caused for some laughs and disagreements, I would not be where am today if it weren’t for their unconditional love, their undivided attention, their endless support, and the occasional spoiling. And while 17 reasons is not enough, they are most certainly my best friends.
1. My grandma is down for a tea and cookie date at any point in the week.
2. I text my grandpa more than I text anyone.
3. I am guaranteed one handwritten letter in my college mailbox a week.
4. My grandma loves to take me shopping.
5. They never miss a school event, chorus concert, graduation, award ceremony, sporting event, or musical.
6. I get homesick when I am away from them, going through withdrawals from grandparent love.
7. When I am home from school, sick as a dog, curling up on their couch and watching QVC or The Bachelor with my grandma is all I ever want.
8. They forgave me for getting my nose pierced and a tattoo (Sorry once again).
9. They taught me how to drive a car because my parents were too scared to get in the vehicle with me.
10. I have heard more stories about the war from my grandpa then I did in history class, however I still love hearing them
11. Even if it is one I have heard six times in the past week. I can sit and sing along to Frank Sinatra music with my grandpa for hours on end.
12.They give me endless support and great advice. I listen to them more than I listen to my own parents.
13. My grandparents taught me about the kind of relationship I want to be in.
14. Their love for each other is infectious.
15. My grandparents taught me how to be selfless, giving to others, focusing on everyone before my own needs.
16. I hang out in their house more than I hang out in my own.
17. I would rather spend the night with my grandparents than hanging at some party with friends.
18. They were the hardest goodbye when I left for college, and the easiest hello when I return on break.
I am blessed to have two special people like my grandparents in my life. They have given me more than I could ever have received from anyone else. I am forever thankful that I can call my grandparents my best friends.
