It's that time again - it's summer vacation. Students anxiously anticipate it all year long, but when it finally rolls around, they often find themselves bored to death. What is one to do with so much free time? It is easy enough to binge-watch Netflix and sleep all day, but why do that when you could be doing something truly productive? If you're anything like me, you have a list of hobbies you've always wanted to try but never had the time to when you were in school. Not to worry, I've compiled a list of seventeen new hobbies to try while you're stuck sitting at home for the next three months.

1. Painting

Come on, who doesn't love Bob Ross? Take a lesson from him and paint some happy trees or freestyle it.

2. Reading

If you're a bookworm like I am, summer is the perfect time to catch up on recreational reading.

3. Hiking

4. Photography

If you would love to learn how to make your Instagram feed #goals, take some time to practice your photography skills.

5. Cook something new

Do you have a Pinterest board full of recipes you've never tried? Now is the time!

6. Gardening

Everyone knows plant lady is the new cat lady.

7. Blogging

Blogging is a great way to keep you busy and practice self-discipline. It is a lot of work but is a very rewarding way to express yourself.

For all you teen grandmas out there, this one is for you. Learn how to knit now so you can save money on Christmas gifts later. Your friends and family will thank you (or maybe not).

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
