16 Things I Would Never Do

A guide to my life.

16 Things I Would Never Do
Meditations

Earlier this week, as I was leaving my dorm-room, I said to my friends, "Don't do anything I wouldn't do!" One of my friends replied, "Well, that's not very much." It didn't really hurt my feelings because he wasn't wrong, but it got me thinking: What would I never do? So, I made a list. This list may change over time, and I might add to it later. But, right now, this is how I feel about my life.

1. Steal A First Kiss

It's one thing to be someone's first kiss. It's another thing to steal someone's first kiss. If you know someone has never been kissed, only kiss them if you know they're okay with it. I know not all first kisses are special, but I never want to be the reason somebody's first kiss was unwanted.

2. Call Someone The "C-word"

The "c-word" is a nasty, unecessary word. I never want to be in a place where I am angry enough to use that word. I curse like a sailor, but I would never use that word.

3. Make Someone Intoxicated Without Their Consent

Say what you want about drinking, smoking weed, or popping pills, but, if someone has not consented to doing any of those, no one should make it happen. Slipping something in someone's drink, giving someone a hash brownie, or giving someone a narcotic instead of Tylenol is not okay. No one should ever not know if they're going to be intoxicated.

4. Smoke A Cigarette

Growing up, both of my parents smoked, and I don't want to do them same thing. I don't want to be in the position where I am so addicted to something that I'm spending a lot of money only to hurt my heath and make my clothes/breath smell bad. I have nothing to gain from cigarettes.

5. Belittle Someone For Lack Of Knowledge

If someone isn't as educated as you, they are not less than you. Not everyone has had as many opportunities as as you. Rather than make someone feel dumb, we should calmly educate them on the subject.

6. Turn Down A Challenge

Now, obviously this has some limitations. I'm not going to to accept the challenge of "doing something on this list" or "killing a man." If I think I can do it, I will accept the challenge. Right now, I'm trying to hug one of my friends 3,007 times before he graduates college. I have won three slap bets (a bet where the wager is slaps). I am going to keep a longer Snapstreak with one of my friends than my roommate, and one of my friends has challenged me to not get pregnant before anyone else in our friend group from high school. Challenges make life interesting, and I don't want life to be boring.

7. Let Down A Friend In Need

When I become friends with someone, it means they are an important person in my life. If a friend reaches out to me, I will do everything in my power to help them. I know I'm not perfect, but my friends mean a lot to me.

8. Cheat On Someone

When I'm in a relationship, I remain faithful, no matter how awful the relationship may be. No one should ever have to feel like they are good enough for someone. All cheating does is create mistrust and hurt feelings. Be honest with your partner; if you're having thoughts about cheating, you're not happy in your relationship.

9. Understand Sports

I have never understood sports, and I don't think I ever will.

10. Knowingly Consume Coconut Or Fish

Enough said.

11. Get Stage Fright

I am a theatre major. I have never experienced stage fright, and I can't see myself ever experiencing it. I don't care what people think of me, and I don't need anyone else's approval.

12. Have A Dull Moment

My life is not allowed to be boring. I bring my enthusiasm into everything I do and I try to make everything as exciting as possible. Even when I do my homework, I wait until the last minute that way, there's at least some suspense.

13. Let A Friend Feel Unappreciated

No matter what it is, I always let my friends know I appreciate them. When they say something funny, help me out, or spend time with me, I let them know. Whether it be a gift or just a telling them, I never want a friend to feel like I'm using them.

14. Let Someone Feel Left Out

I don't like to let people feel left out. Even if I don't like someone, I don't let them feel left out. They're still human, and they have feelings. I've felt left out so many times in life and I don't want to let people feel them the same way.

15. Drink And Drive

Drinking is one thing. Drinking and driving is another thing. When you get behind the wheel drunk, you are not just putting yourself in danger, but you're putting every other person on the road in danger. Your life is not the only one that matters.

16. Pay For Sex

Sex is not important enough to me in order for me to spend money on it.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
