Saint Mary's is a small, Catholic, private high school located in downtown Annapolis, MD. It is on the same property as the historic Charles Carroll house, and even though the school has been around for a long time there are some things about the school that just never change.
1. You went on Kairos
Or you stayed behind and enjoyed less classwork and substitute teachers
2. You got off of school for religious holidays just because your parking lot was small
Ash Wednesday for example, and knew Spalding was jealous of that
3. Spirit week was the biggest competition between the senior year and every other grade level
Costumes, hallway decorations, and the class video really showed who didn't care that much versus who wanted to win more than anything
4. Tourists would often stare at your uniform
Because who wouldn't when they saw fancy dressed teenagers wearing kilt like skirts or blazers?
5. You got confused by your schedule
Trying to figure out if it was an a, b, c, or d day was a struggle, especially after a snow day or the weekend.
6. You didn't use buses on field trips because everything was within walking distance
Perks of being downtown and having access to the Chesapeake Bay
When spring uniform started you were either ghostly white or bright orange
Girls kept Jergens in business in March and April
7. You actually used lockers
Unlike all the other schools, and even kept them unlocked
8. You were either on a sports team or in theatre
There was no in between, but occasionally you'd have a few Troy Boltons who did both
9. You despised anyone who went to Severn or Spalding
Because Saint Mary's is the best
10. You knew everything about everyone
Even if you never spoke to them in your life because word spreads fast through a small class
11. You prayed all year it wouldn't rain on your graduation day
It was something you looked forward to for four years and wanted to make sure you had the prettiest graduation ceremony than all your friends at other schools
12. Gym class felt like you were training to be a Navy Seal
Mr. Sheehan and Mr. Best worked you hard, but in the end you were in the best shape you've ever been in
13. You didn't know what to tell people when they asked what your mascot was
A saint? But which one? A fleur-de-lis? Mary? Nutty the Squirrel?
14. When you visited other schools you were amazed at how big they were
You were used to only having three hallways and a cafeteria that doubled as an auditorium
15. You had to pay to get an out of uniform day
Because paying for a uniform and tuition didn't cost enough money. At least the $5 was worth the comfort and went to supporting a good cause
16. In the end, you wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else
The memories and friendships you made last a lifetime and once a Saint, always a Saint
