Now that I am finished with my sophomore year of college, I have had time to reflect on all the things college has taught me. I have gained valuable knowledge from my peers and professors, discovered my passion and joined clubs and organizations. While these are all good things to have experienced, here is a sarcastic and far more relatable list of things college has really taught us.
1. How to set priorities
Because that class that no one pays attention in anyway is far less important than the 10 page paper you've been neglecting all week.
2. How to take risks.
As a kid, your mom used to jokingly tell you to go play in the road, and now you realize that may have some value to it.
3. How to maximize your night’s sleep.
In college, you learn to wake up at 8:20 a.m. for your 8:30 and still have time to brush your teeth, throw on clothes and grab a coffee because 8 a.m. really does feel like the middle of the night.
4. How to enjoy the seasons.
If it's snowing out, there's no chance that you'll leave your cocoon of blankets to walk through the snow and sit in a freezing classroom. If it's a cool fall day, it's suddenly the perfect time to take a fall selfie or a picture of the foliage and if it's a beautiful spring day there is no way you are getting up from the quad to sit in class. After all, you really need to work on your tan.
5. How to multitask.
Suddenly you are able to lump together a variety of tasks into one, like brushing your teeth and taking a shower (maybe not the peeing part).
6. How to be a leader.
All aboard the struggle bus!
7. How to feel like the smartest person in the class.
When you're the only person in class that's done the reading.
8. How to work with others.
Let's be real, trying to track down your group to work on a group project is like trying to give a cat a bath - it's nearly impossible.
9. How to maximize your budget.
If you want to go out for ice cream with your friends, dinner for the rest of the week is not going to be good.
10. How to do research.
Research for a paper? No. Finding out every last detail on that girl from high school? Yes.
11. How to incorporate math into your daily life.
You finally realize the importance of high school math. Well, some of it.
12. How to communicate with others.
With just one look, you know the whole class is going to fail the test together.
13. How to question everything.
We all have that one professor that isn't completely honest about what will be on the exam.
14. How to be a good economist.
Because why a $200 book to simply use as a paper weight?
15. How to be efficient.
You've never loved two letters more.
16. How to be emotionally strong.
No, really. I'm fine.
