I think everyone can agree that being sick sucks. It doesn't matter what's got you down; you just can't wait to feel better. But what if you didn't? What if you constantly had to deal with different symptoms, appointments, and taking various medications? Well, that's what it's like to live with a chronic disease. Sounds fun, right? Here are 16 things only the pros will understand:
1. Someone three rooms down the hall can cough and you still get sick.
2. Which means you basically live at the doctors office.
3. You’re basically a human pharmacy.
4. You get to see a cardiologist, pulmonologist, neurologist, gastroenterologist, endocrinologist and all the other 'gists'.
5. And you know they're never on time.
6. It's okay though, because after everything you've been through with your doctor, the two of you have a (sometimes sassy) special bond.
7. You're in the hospital so often that the nurses stop referring to your room by the number and just call it by your name.
8. You've memorized the hospital menu and know which foods to avoid.
9. You're on a first name basis with your nurses and won't hesitate to remind them that bedside manner is, in fact, important.
10. But your favorites are almost like family. They've been with you through your worst, cried with you, prayed with you, and celebrated your victories with you.
11. People might think you're antisocial, but really, you just know sometimes it's not worth it knowing you're going to feel like crap the next day.
12. As much as you want it to, the world doesn't stop spinning just because you're sick.
13. You have to have that one person that you always vent to in order to keep your sanity.
14. Whenever someone tells you "it'll be okay" or to "chin up" you lowkey want to punch them in the face.
15. You want to roll your eyes when everyone wants to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they seem to you.
16. But you don't because, honestly, you know you wouldn't be where you are without your support system.
