15 Underrated Disney Movies

I will start off by saying that I am a massive fan of Disney. From the movies, to the songs, to even the characters amazing one-liners, I love it all. Unfortunately, some Disney movies aren't the most popular and when I mention them to people they have no clue what I'm talking about. When people say Disney they automatically jump to things like Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen, but there are so many fantastic Disney movies that never get the credit they deserve. The following are 15 underrated movies that every Disney fan has to see.

1.Treasure Planet

Treasure Planet is one of my favorite Disney movies. My cousin first introduced me to the movie and I feel in love from the start. The movies follows Jim Hawkins, a young teenager who helps his mother run an inn. Hawkins is given a sphere by a dying captain leading to the legendary and mysterious Treasure Planet. On the journey to Treasure Planet, Jim meets some amazing characters including a captain named Amelia, her first mate Mr. Arrow, the cook John Silver, and the hilarious shape-shifting Morph. The movie takes you on adventure through space to discover the incredible Treasure Planet and keeps you on your toes the entire time. No matter what you will fall in love with the story and the characters within it.

2.The Black Cauldron

The Black Cauldron is one movie that I always say I love and no one ever knows what I am talking about. The movie which is definitely earlier animation and drawings, you can tell, is still an amazing movie packed with adventure as well as lovable characters. The movie is a lot darker than most Disney movies and was actually made this way to draw back in bored teenagers who claimed they would never be caught watching a Disney movie. A young boy named Tarzan dreams of heroics and knighthood gets his chance for glory when he goes on a quest to defeat the evil Horned King. The story follows his journey and becomes a dark, fantasy, adventure film.

3. Robin Hood

From the opening credits Robin Hood could become your new favorite Disney movie. Alan-a-Dale, a rooster, opens the story with a super catchy song describing the life of Robin Hood and Little John. Prince John, a lion who sucks his thumb, is traveling through Sherwood Forest when he is robbed by Robin Hood and Little John. Embarrassed, Prince John stays in Nottingham in the attempt to capture the bandits while taxing the life out of the town. Robin Hood becomes the amazing hero that children should want to be and the story itself is very meaningful. Unfortunately I feel that because the movie is done with animals and there are older, adult versions the old Disney classic doesn't get as much credit as it deserves.

4. Meet The Robinsons

Meet the Robinsons is one of those family movies that absolutely melts your heart. The story focuses on a young orphan named Lewis who is an avid inventor, but is unable to find a family where he fits. At the school science fair Lewis meets Wilbur a boy from the year 2037. When the two get together to try and restore some broken machinery they end up uncovering Lewis' future. Meet the Robinsons is such an incredible story and it never gets the credit it deserves. I hope that now at least a few people will know just how amazing it is.

5. Fox and the Hound

Warning about this movie, it always, always makes me cry. It's an "us against the world" kind of story when Todd the Fox and Copper the Hunting Dog become friends. The two are supposed to be mortal enemies and throughout the story that is what they essentially become. It shows how as young children the two are best friends but as they grow older society influences them into becoming who they are "supposed to be." Fox and the Hound, I personally think, teaches a great lesson about how no matter how different two people are they can still become "best of friends."

6. Mulan

While Mulan isn't exactly underrated I still feel that the movie doesn't get the recognition around Disney fans that it deserves. Mulan is the type of story that makes you want to take control of your destiny. When you don't know who you are or what to do and suddenly you see the path you are meant to take. For Mulan, it's saving her old and frail father from having to serve in the army again. Mulan becomes the super hero that everyone should want to be; strong, courageous, powerful, smart, she becomes the perfect role model for young girls. Not only is the story powerful in message it is absolutely hilarious with amazing characters like Mushu, Chien Po, Cri-kee, and Li Shang. The songs will forever be stuck in your head, especially "I'll make a man out of you."

7. Brother Bear

Brother Bear is a story about accepting yourself and the qualities you possess. Kenai is a part of a tribe in which each man is given a totem with an animal that symbolizes themselves. Kenai is given the totem of the bear of love. After an incident with a bear kills Kenai's brother, he sets out for revenge, but upon killing the bear he himself turns into a bear. The story follows Kenai's story as a bear and his quest to discover his identity. You will fall in love with Kenai as the story goes along and when he meets the adorable bear cub Koda you will fall in love with him too. The story is a tangle of heartbreaks, but is solidified in the bond formed between the two bears. In the end, Brother Bear will sew your heart back together and make you thankful for accepting who you are.

8.Tarzan

Tarzan is the incredible story of a baby boy who is raised by gorillas after his true family is killed by a cheetah. As he grows up, Tarzan begins to understand that he is different from his family and one day he meets a young woman named Jane who looks just like him. Jane, her father, and Clayton come to the island to find the gorillas which Tarzan is able to do. The story erupts when Tarzan leads the humans to the gorillas and continues to grow. Tarzan is a love story, a family story, and a story of discovering where you truly belong. The characters and the songs, sung by Phil Collins, completely ties the movie together making it a have to watch family feature.

9. Mary Poppins

"A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down," or so says Mary Poppins. The main character played by Julie Andrews is a magical nanny who makes every day an adventure. The movie is jam packed with great songs and dancing. While all the other movies I've listed have been animated, Mary Poppins features live actors and actress which makes it unique. The movie contains Walt Disney's favorite song ever, "Feed the Birds." The movie is whimsical and magical making it every kids fantasy, and a great movie to watch to bring it to life. Plus as a parent, Mary Poppins gives you amazing lines to feed your kids when they misbehave.

10. Hercules

"Who put the glad in gladiator...Hercules!" While it's one of the more liked movies on my list I had to put it on. Hercules is one of my favorite movies because of the fact that it ties Greek mythology with Disney, what could be better. The story is one of a boy working his way towards history and falling in love with a girl who doesn't want it. My all time favorite songs come from this movie including Zero to Hero and I Won't Say I'm In Love. The movie is for all ages and as my little sister says he's super strong just like his movie.

11. Peter Pan

Played once in a play by Walt Disney himself Peter Pan provides every child with their fantasy, a place where they never have to grow old and can stay a child forever. I mean I personally would still kill for a place like that. The movie features magic in the form of pixie dust, pirates, a crocodile, and one incredible boy. Your children will be waiting at their windows at night for Peter Pan to come visit, enchanted by the magic and hope it brings (trust me I did). While the movie is older, it still holds the same amazing quality throughout the ages. All you need is a little faith, trust, and pixie dust for this movie to take your heart away.

12. Peter Pan Return To Neverland

I had to include the second Peter Pan if I included the first. Both movies are high on my Disney list because I was never a princess type of girl, I was a hardcore Tinkerbell girl. In the second movie, the main character is Wendy's daughter Jane. Jane is taken to Neverland by Captain Hook in the attempts to capture Peter Pan. Throughout the story Jane learns to become a child again, but not before making some awful decisions. Return to Neverland was released a lot later than the original Peter Pan and features some more update animation. While the story doesn't have too many iconic songs, the story makes up for it. It's my dream come true, a second chance at flying with my childhood best friend.

13. 101 Dalmatians

101 Dalmatians has one of my favorite villains in it, Cruella Deville. She has her own fantastic song and the demeanor to live up to it. Besides having an amazing villain, who doesn't want dogs to talk, even if humans can't hear it. The story features fifteen original puppies, and then gives you an added bonus of 83 puppies later on. Pongo and Perdita go on an adventure to rescue their own puppies and eventually end up rescuing them all. My personal favorite dog or the one that my mother claims I'm most like is Rolly. He only ever wants to eat, he is essentially my spirit animal, and he should be yours too. All the puppies are amazing and the story itself is full of spots. Anyone who loves dogs will love this movie, and even if you don't love dogs you'll love the nature of all the characters. It's a movie for anyone and features a life time supply of cuteness.

14. The Incredibles

What can I say about the Incredibles other than that they are incredible. The movie is a cute action story in which the Parr family, a family of "Supers," must save the world from the evil Syndrome. The story shows the power of family and working together to achieve a goal. It is truly a family movie. I personally love each character, especially Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack (who gives the family a surprise at the end of the movie). Like Meet the Robinsons, I feel like The incredibles is another highly underestimated film. While not having the major romance story like princess movies, there are other characteristics that make it memorable. It's a different kind of story and that what makes it so, I have to say it, incredible.

15. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Last but not least is The Chronicles of Narnia. While not necessarily suited for younger children it makes the perfect teenager/adult movie to watch. The movie contains magic to keep some of that childhood left in you alive, evil, adventure, sword fighting, amazing places, and one incredible lion. The story follows the pensive children as they fall into the magical world of Narnia where it turns out the White Witch is after them because they are the prophesied to be her downfall. As they go on their adventure the Pevensies meet some helpful creatures and even meet Father Christmas. It is an epic, crazy, thrilling, suspensful journey. Once you watch this one you will want to watch the other two (and trust me the second one even more amazing).

So there you go, that's my list of the 15 most underrated Disney movies. All of these make my list of favorites, but if you couldn't tell almost every Disney movie is my favorite. Each one is unique and special which is why I love them so much. I hope that you watch at least one of these movies or have seen them. Leave a comment below with which one is your favorite and if I missed any. Have a lovely day and "just keep swimming."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
