Transitioning from high school to college is always a major change. For me, it was going to be a HUGE change. I was coming from an all-girls Catholic high school and thinking about transitioning into a co-ed college was terrifying to me. For those of you who don't understand what it feels like coming from a same-sex school, today is your day to gain some insight to what it truly feels like transitioning into the co-ed world of college.
1. What am I going to wear?! I miss my uniform already!
2. Does this mean I have wear makeup every day now? Why does that girl over there have pounds of makeup on? Do I really need to wear makeup? The struggle...
3. I guess I should actually brush my hair today. I don't want people thinking that I just rolled out of bed (even though I just did) and threw my hair up in a bird's nest.
4. Who is this teacher?! No nuns?! No women teachers either?! What is going on here?!
5. BOYS! BOYS?! WHAT ARE THOSE? WAIT, THERE'S ONE RIGHT NOW! AND ANOTHER ONE! I have never seen so many boys in the past four years!
6. Joining my sorority feels like I'm back at my all-girls school. Now I miss my high school "sisters."
7. Having food everywhere in sight.
Walking onto campus, you could smell the homemade cookies
from the cafeteria, pizza, Chick-fil-A, the amazing homemade sweet tea, etc. FOOD
GALORE was all around.
8. I don't have to ask to leave to go to the bathroom?! FREEDOM! Oh, and boys will be patrolling the halls... This is a whole new experience!
9. I need a break from school already. Where's a Holy Day when you need it?
10. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked, "How did you survive going to an all-girls high school?" I'd be rich.
11. We're just going to start class? Where's the prayer? How do I know class has started if we haven't had our daily prayer?
12. If really you want to cause frenzy, bring in one of the following things: pizza, cupcakes, a puppy or a boy.
13. It was acceptable to change in the middle of the hallway. I mean, we're all girls around here. No shame. Am I right?
14. Maybe you shaved your legs once a week or once a month. Or more like never.
15. Finally, there were amazing traditions that no other schools could have even imagined, especially Ring Day and Senior Jersey Day!
Honestly, thinking back on my days at my all-girls Catholic high school made me think how privileged and thankful I was to receive a wonderful education. Yes, my education wasn’t like some of yours, but I would never change a thing. I gained some wonderful friendships along my journey and had a blast with my “sisters.”
