Field Placement is either the best or worst part of your first year
Every first year student at Wheelock is required to take Human Growth and Development, a class which entails a required internship of 30 hours over the semester. These 3 hours a week were either the best part of your day or they made you want to hit your head against a brick wall. There is no in between.
Word travels fast
When there are less than 1000 people in your school, everyone hears everything and somehow you are privy to gossip about people you’ve never even met
You know at least 15 people who came here just for Child Life
Child life Specialists are an amazing group of people and it takes a special kind of person to pursue that type of career. Wheelock is well known for their child life program so it makes sense that it draws in students hoping to declare that major.
Do not ask anyone about their child life application
Sophomores across campus spend the better part of their year applying and waiting to hear back about whether or not they’ve been accepted into the dual degree program. Do not ask them how the process is going. Tears will ensue regardless of where in the process they are.
The food always tastes better when that one guy makes it
You know which guy I’m talking about.
You can’t leave the dining hall without someone asking you (read: guilting you) into supporting their fundraiser
Avoid making eye contact with the people sitting at the table at all costs.
Peabs is a hike
Only make that trek when absolutely necessary
You will never be on time if it involves the MBTA
You’ve come to terms with the fact that the green line will always be experiencing moderate to severe delays regardless of the time or weather
The entire Massachusetts goose population winters at Wheelock
Seriously, why are there so many geese and how do I make them stop following me
You’re shocked when people have heard of Wheelock
Not even the other COF schools know we exist, so it’s a pleasant surprise when other people do...especially if they know about it independently of The Globe
The day is not complete until you’ve received at least 36 emails
Yes I am aware of your event, this is the 14th email about it in three days, thank you.
It is 100% acceptable to go to StarMarket at any hour
I never knew how badly I needed a 24/7 grocery store in my life
Panera excepting FenwayCash was the highlight of your spring semester
And now you’re out of FenwayCash
You can’t get through a day without stopping for coffee in CCSR
It’s not as good as real Starbucks or Dunkin, but it’s included in your meal plan so it’ll have to do
At some point or another, you realized you were home
This school is nuts and sometimes you wish you were back in the room you grew up in curled up in your own bed eating your mom’s cooking, but at the end of the day you know that come summer you’re going to feel that some longing for Wheelock.
