15 Things High Schoolers Need To Stop Complaining About

Just you wait.

There is nothing more frustrating than sitting in a high school class waiting for the bell to ring so you can weave through a sea of confused freshmen, PDA enthusiasts and friend groups who are incapable of moving their conversations to the sidelines. All of this just to get to your next class. It sucks being in the stage where you are expected to make major life decisions while having the same privileges as a toddler. I get it, we've all been there; but most high schoolers complain about things they should be grateful for.

1. Having to carry your books around

You mean the books you get for free? If I could go back to high school I would dump my boy friend and give my heart to all the free books I was forced to lug around.

2. Not having any snow days

I grew up in a suburb of Chicago so I know the struggle of not having a snow day. It wasn't until I went away to college that I realized driving the short distance to school is way better than walking from class to class in a blizzard.

3. Being hungry

You don't know hungry until you're rationing your last pack of Ramen noodles and joining every club for the free food.

4. Being in your lame hometown

Everyone always hates their hometown; until you go away and home feels like the safest place on earth.

5. Hard tests

College is all about crying during your tests and choosing the answer closest to where your tear drop landed.

6. Forced family time

It's funny to see how popular family game night gets when you come home for breaks.

7. Bad teachers

In college we sit in lectures with 300 other students and your professor doesn't even know you exist. Even the worst high school teacher is still there for one on one if you need it.

8. Doing chores

It wasn't until I had a plethora of dishes to clean by hand that I realized I had taken my dishwasher for granted.

9. Taking the bus

It's time to get over the whole "taking the bus is lame" thing because in college the bus is your best friend.

10. Going to work

You mean having money and not selling your blood just to be able to go out on the weekends?

11. Annoying parents

Let me just tell you now that you will always need your mommy and daddy because sometimes you don't know how to fix your Wi-Fi and there are just too many digits in your social security number to remember all by yourself.

12. Being tired

I'll admit waking up early was never my favorite part of high school; but sleep is a foreign concept in college.

13. Going to sports practices

Be grateful that someone is making you work out because one day and 15 pounds later you're going to wish you were going to 6:00 am work outs.

14. Taking a foreign language

Get it out of the way in high school because college is not the time to learn a new language and most degrees require at least two years. ¿Comprende?

15. Wanting to leave

The world is a scary place and living on your own is hard. My advice is to mooch off mom and dad as long as you can.

Who am I kidding? College beats high school any day. Have fun asking for permission to go to the bathroom, kiddos! I'll be here living the good life.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
