15 Things Anyone on a Weight Loss Journey Can Relate To

In our superficial society, the notion of having a "perfect body" is one that while not existing, is sought after by men, women and children. Being a 20 year old woman, I can attest to crying when opening a Victoria's Secret catalog while eating my pint of fro-yo. Although I am a huge supporter of body self-love, there is nothing wrong with always looking to improve! Whether it's eating clean, exercising more or scaling back on caloric intake, progress is never bad. However, we can all agree, dieting is soul-sucking. Food is a social endeavor and brings people together. I admit, I have used food as a way of self-soothing during times of stress, annoyance or pure boredom. I can also admit, I am one of said people who is always putting themselves on diets and declare to the world my allegiance to the grind. Regardless of how seasoned a veteran one may be in the glorious world of dieting, a roller-coaster of emotions is always to be expected when pushing yourself to the absolute limit. For the people who are always on diets, slaving away at the gym or dreaming of carbs, this one's for you! So, sit back with your cleanse in hand, and enjoy!

1. The first day of your "journey" and you're trying to decipher what you can and cannot eat

And you're almost ALWAYS disappointed with the outcome.

2. Having your first meal with friends who get burgers as you get a lifeless salad

And they don't get why you're all teary-eyed as they chew on that deliciousness.

3. Deciding to consult a trainer for the first time

They didn't choose the hard core life, the hard core life chose them.

4. Going to the gym the first time and there are people like this

They can break you in half with their eyes.

5. Meanwhile you're doing this

6. Trying to follow "fitspo" workouts from Instagram but soon realizing you're a rookie

Even a good Insta filter can't fix this one.

7. Looking in the mirror after a few workouts and expecting this

But it's okay, it takes time!

8. Wanting to treat yourself to a cheat day and your conscience won't let you

You've come too far!

9. Adjusting to portion control in order to "shrink" your stomach

AKA always STARVING.

10. Finding yourself waking up sore more times than not

No pain, no gain.

11. Dreaming of carbs at night

Sweet, sweet dreams.

12. Developing determination made of steel

You've come too far.

13. Finding delicious clean recipes

14. Growing stronger and achieving fitness goals

Because you're a badass.

15. And finally, having the satisfaction of knowing it has all paid off!

If you dream it, you can achieve it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
