In the winter you might be cursing that "lake effect" snow and cold temperatures, but in the summer, you live at the beach and enjoy the summer-only restaurants and shops. Northern Indiana is sort of a wonderful place to live in. I've been there my whole life, but in the summer, do you ever wonder what you could be doing? Here are 15 ideas anyone spending the summer in Northern Indiana can add to their bucket listw.
1. Redamak's
It's only open for the summer and it's the best cash-only burger joint in Northern Indiana, in my opinion.
2. Silver Beach fireworks
Silver Beach's amazing Fourth of July fireworks - while eating Silver Beach pizza, obviously.
3. Watch JoJo on "The Bachelorette"
She got dumped by a guy from Northern Indiana so, it's appropriate. It premieres May 23 on ABC.
4. Lighthouse Outlet Mall
Get the best deals, at reduced prices, at a mall that is looks like a lighthouse. It has a very summery, coastal town feel.
5. Go to a South Bend Cubs game
Because baseball is the best sport.
6. Go to your county fair
There are several counties in Northern Indiana, so which is ever one is closer to you, go to it and enjoy the rides, funnel cakes and animals.
7. Go to a local root beer stand
Like B K Drive-In in South Bend
8. See an outdoor movie
Outdoor movies are the best. That's all.
9. Indiana Dunes
Visit the pretty beaches and climb the tall dunes.
10. Swimming in lake water
No need to swim in salty ocean water; fresh lake water is the absolute best.
11. Camping
There are tons of camp sites to go to! You can rent an RV or pop-up camper and enjoy a night under the stars, roasting marshmallows. PSA: Potato Creek State Park is a great one.
12. Get a summer job
Because that seems like the adult thing to do, but who needs responsibilities? Be a lifeguard or a camp counselor - or work at the zoo? That's being a grown-up, guys.
13. Bonfires
So cozy and comfortable. A great way to relax.
14. End of summer Chicago shopping
Take the South Shore into Chicago and get some cute back-to-school outfits.
15. 7/11 Slurpee runs
Because they are delicious.
