15 Hot Summer Songs
Rolling Stone

Summer is in full bloom and that means that you finally have time to catch up on your Netflix, the beach is prime travel ground, and all the hottest hits are playing. While summer is full of cool moments with friends and family, one of the most unforgettable elements of this season is the abundance of ear worms that you can catch. Of course, any song can get annoying with enough repeats, so here is a curation of songs I found with the help of friends that are guaranteed to be as crisp as your drink!

1. Calvin Harris and Rihanna "This Is What You Came For"

This song is the newest single from one of EDM's hottest producer's Calvin Harris, and this song only further cements his throne in music royalty. Rihanna sings in a too cool tone, which only makes the song even more enticing, as you can't help but try to copy her cooing.

2. Beyonce "Hold Up"

Basically anything Beyonce is worthy of making this list. She should have her own list with every single song on it, but this song just resonates more with the summer vibe. On this track, the beat is light and light drums carry Beyonce as she lets her lover know that she's the best there is. I recommend you hear this song to remind you that you are the best!

3. Drake, Wiz Kid, Kyla "One Dance"

You probably already have this song in your queue, but just in case, I had to mention this on the list. "One Dance" has a danceable beat and the lyrics are an invitation to the dance floor.

4. Justin Timberlake "CAN'T STOP THE FEELING!"

What can I say, this song is cute! The bubbly beat, carefree lyrics, and Justin's sweet voice all converge for a perfect piece of pop! Play this at the beach, near the pool, in the car, or when you're throwing a one person dance party.

5. DJ Khaled, Drake "For Free"

MAJOR KEY ALERT!!! Instead of recording for Snapchat, DJ Khaled has finally hit the studio and recorded new music. Drake delivers on this song with some serious bars which are steamy and sensual, so make sure grandma isn't around to hear you blast this jam.

6. Marc E. Bassy, G-Eazy "You & Me"

This next entry has trace elements of dancehall and it makes an ideal song for kicking back in the sand. G-Eazy, the Bay Area native, carries his Cali swag with some smooth lyrics about learning to move on from a former fling. What better song to forget your stress to?

7. ID "Turn Me On"

This next song is on repeat for me, as I can't get over how perfectly it captures the sensual spirit of summer. It's lyrics are also a bit more forward, so listen with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, its rhythm is perfect for dancing, so no doubt it'll be heard at parties or clubs this summer.

8. DNCE "Toothbrush"

If you've had enough "Cake by the Ocean," then maybe you should grab your "Toothbrush." This is song is bubbling, but I'm sure it's going to take the radio by storm soon enough. It has a repeating thump and clap motif going on, so its great for long car rides or for sing alongs.

9. Ariana Grande "Into You"

To be fair, you should have known this was coming, but hear me out! With her new album, Ariana has shed her pre-teen persona and now she's developing into a mature entertainer. If you can give the song a listen, I'm sure you will find something you're into. The EDM inspired beat is infectious, the lyrics perfectly sum up a summer infatuation, and the video is gorgeous.

Just because I really love everything about this song.

10. Cash Cash, Sofia Reyes "How To Love"- Spanish Version

I feel like there isn't enough exposure to multicultural music on mainstream radio, so this song has some Spanish and English lyrics laced in together to appeal to a broader audience. I love this song for its laid-back tone and am proud to see this group embracing a new culture in their music.

11. Selena Gomez "Me & The Rhythm"

I didn't include "Kill Em With Kindness" because I think that song is already riding on the radio, but this song is coming close to being a single *fingers crossed.* This song is all about celebrating being single and finding happiness in yourself. Selena is the queen of boosting self esteem! This song takes Selena back to her dance roots and you may have heard it in Coke's new campaign. If a million dollar company trusts this song, don't you think it's worth a try?

12. Twenty One Pilots "Heathens"

If you're also excited for the upcoming Suicide Squad film then look no further! This song comes from the film's soundtrack and it oozes summer spirit. The song is all about being with friends, embracing your wild side, and it has a fun pop punk beat.

13. Bebe Rexha, Nicki Minaj "No Broken Hearts"

Bebe Rexha is a singer I have long loved and I am so happy to see other people start to take notice of her. This song got me through my last semester of college, as I was going through a lot with friends, but the song is all about moving on and loving yourself and the present. This song was my spring anthem, and I hope it finds its way into your summer! It's a fun song great for sing alongs and spontaneous dance parties as well.

14. Meghan Trainor "Me Too"

When I first heard this song I thought it was anyone but Meghan Trainor! The bouncy beat channels Britney Spears and the sassy lyrics echo a Rihanna swagger. This is nothing I would have ever expected from the "All About That Bass Singer," but I love this! The song is great for selfie sessions, getting dressed in the morning, or when you're down!

15. Isac Elliot "What About Me"

You're probably not familiar with this singer, and that's because he is barely making his way to the US! Isaac Elliot is a rising singer whose made it big in the UK, and his singing career seems secure enough to break into our charts. I included him because this song is a great tune to do some soul searching to. I also recommend his song "Lipstick" with Tyga, but I think this will be a good entry into his art.

I hope you leave this list with some songs that will add a little zest into your summer playlist. I know I missed many great songs, but the beauty of music is that we can always share with others. I'd love to hear what you think about this list, as well as what's on your list. Happy listening!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
