15 Signs You're From Southern Indiana

Southern Indiana is its own entity. If you live here you have a deep love for family, cool summer nights, basketball, and small moments. Corn fields and gravel roads will always remind you of home, but you also found love for the city in Louisville. Being from Southern Indiana definitely has its eccentricities, so here's a list to explain why.

1. When you travel anywhere but the deep south, everyone thinks you're from the deep south.

You should travel anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon line. My accent is not bad.

2. College basketball is life.

You have a favorite team and you're fiercely loyal to them, even if you don't like sports. March Madness is literal madness in southern Indiana.

3. Your allergies are real.

You laugh at anyone outside of the Ohio River Valley who complains about allergies. Louisville may be known for the Derby, but it was ranked number one as the worst city to live in for allergies.

4. You're used to temperamental weather.

It can go from 75 and sunny to 32 and snowing on any given day of the year. You better believe a Hoosier's wardrobe is ready for anything, though.

5. You don't think it's weird when you see a tractor driving on the highway.

You probably had to drive a tractor to school in high school as well.

6. You're not quite sure what a Hoosier is but you're sure proud to be one.

Hoo-Hoo-Hoosiers!

7. Parks and Recreation is your favorite TV show.

No television show has ever understood your life like this one.

8. You get very defensive when people pronounce Louisville incorrectly.

Hearing Louis-Ville is like nails on a chalk board.

9. All soda is Coke.

Pepsi is coke. Sprite is coke. Dr. Pepper is coke. Coke is coke. Ale 8 is heaven in a bottle.

10. When you go anywhere you claim Louisville as your home because you don't want to explain where your tiny Indiana town is.

Indiana. That's near Chicago, right?

11. You're fiercely loyal to your high school, long after you've graduated.

It's irrational, but it's there and you don't know how to make it stop. #highlandersforlife

12. You can't decide if you're Southern, Midwestern, city, or country because you're mostly a mixture of them all.

You're may live on a farm but you're only a five-minute drive a big city. You have a southern twang but you identify as a Midwesterner. Indiana is a crossroads in more ways than one.

13. You can't stand to be asked if you like corn anymore.

Yes. It's delicious. Moving on.

14. You don't know how the phenomenon started, but you're not even surprised anymore when people check to see if you're wearing shoes when you mention your home state.

Yes, I wear shoes. Unless it's a nice summer day.

15. You don't care about all the nonsense you get for being from this flyover state because it will always be home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
