1. You have the business advising office’s number saved in your contacts.

Bless the amazing people that work in the Business Student Services office. From helping you pick a major, to laying out your 4-year (or 5-year) plan. And for those of you who don’t, just do yourself a favor and save it: (989) 774-3124.

2. You’ve had at least one Mock Interview before.

You were required to do one in BIS101, hands down. But then you needed to brush up your skills before your first internship interview. And then it was required for another class. And then you had to practice for your full-time job interview. In reality, CMU is unbelievably lucky to have as great of a resource as Career Services and the Mock Interview Program. And, let’s be honest, you learned something new in each and every single Mock you did.

3. You’ve barely escaped death in the Grawn parking lot once or twice.

With lots of business students comes lots of cars, and that lot can fill up pretty quickly. Especially with people walking through the parking lot throughout the day, and cars shifting around between classes, it’s truly a miracle that some of us are alive today.

4. You sometimes feel like a zoo animal when working in the project rooms.

Those shiny, glass project rooms are pretty fancy. But when you’re trying to get things done in them, you always have a feeling that someone is on the other side ... always watching.

5. You probably have, or are planning on getting, some sort of certification.

Central offers so many cool certification opportunities. Maybe you’re a master at Lean Six Sigma, or a wizard with ERP; regardless, you’ve at least considered getting cert’ed up.

6. The Alpha Kappa Psi Career Fair is like Business-Christmas.

AKΨ does an awesome job of bringing in recruiters from all sorts of majors. Talking to so many in one day can be stressful, but a great way to practice those interpersonal skills, and maybe land an interview in the process. The Spring Fair is on Feb. 12th, so make sure your resume is crisp and your suit is dry-cleaned!

7. You probably have a concentration, or a double major, or a few minors, or all of the above.

This is thanks to the magic of Business Student Services, and our curriculum here at Central. Personally, I have a major, a minor, and a concentration, and am not afraid to show it.

8. You’ve been trying to think of an idea for the New Venture Competition since freshman year.

Whether you’ve successfully come up with one is a different story; only time will tell. Regardless, you’re fully aware that the New Venture Competition is an awesome, unique opportunity for entrepreneurial Chippewas to earn funds for their very own start-up business! This year’s competition will be held on April 8th, so get those pitches ready.

9. The days when you have to walk around campus in a full suit are the best/worst times of your year.

There’s a certain amount of power that comes with walking into the building wearing a suit. But, as we know, with great power comes great responsibility; you have to work that suit like you were born to wear it. You must pretend like we’re not all just children strutting around in grown-up clothes.

10. You’re super pumped for all of the renovations Grawn is getting, because it’s basically your second home.

Grawn is on track to get renovated very soon! It’ll include a lot more student-friendly space to study, work on group projects, or just hang out. You can take a fly-over tour of the renovation plans here:

11. You’ve forgotten which side of Grawn you were on before.

The ominous building is full of mystery and mazes ... and a 3-hour night class can really throw off your sense of location.

12. Ed Woelfert has probably tried to convince you to switch your major to accounting.

He’s just one of the amazing faculty the CBA has, and he sure is passionate about accounting and finance. Many of us have had him for at least one accounting class, and no matter who you are, where you’ve been, or where you’re going, he’ll find a way to prove accounting is the right choice.

13. Having a class with the desks that feature cupholders is your excuse to get Starbucks twice a week.

When in college you learn to appreciate the little things in life, and that includes desks with cupholders.

14. The Major-Signing Event in the Towers is basically the only reason you’re officially considered a business major.

It’s where I signed my major, and it’s probably where you signed yours. It’s just another way the CBA makes our lives easier!

15. The business world is scary, but you know you’ll be ready.

Central Michigan University has some of the best, brightest, and most dedicated business students and faculty around. Although the thought of being thrust into adulthood is slightly terrifying, you know that the College of Business will have you ready for anything once you graduate.
