My hometown might not be a hotbed for the most exciting things to do, but one thing it is not lacking in is places to eat. Everywhere you turn there is a quality restaurant that is just waiting for your visit. So here is a compilation of what I think are the best restaurants in the Dutchess and Putnam county areas.
1. Las Mananitas.
Considering I was actually here a couple of nights ago it makes sense to start with Las Mananitas. The food at this place is so good and the staff is very friendly. Food is kind of expensive so I can't suggest going here every night, but every once in a while it's a treat.
2. Aversano's.
It may not look like much, but Aversano's has some of the best pizza in the area. With their specialty slices, they are one place that aims to please and I am happy to have them so close to home!
3. Fiesta Mexicana.
Right next door to Aversano's is Fiesta Mexicana. Though unnecessarily cramped, Fiesta is a cheaper version of Las Mananitas with almost the same quality. Good for going with smaller groups.
4. Forrest Sidestreet Cafe.
Now this place really looks like nothing, but as a loyal customer for years, this hotdog truck is no joke. The owners are the nicest people on Earth and their food is heavenly. Good for a quick stop on the way to your destination!
5. Carriage House.
Carriage House is a personal favorite of my family. They have these burgers that are so dang good, you'll be asking for another one. Make sure to stop by.
6. Sauro's Town Square Pizza.
We have been to almost every pizzeria in the area and Town Square is definitely the best. With their wide selection of pizzas, salads and specialty rolls Town Square gives you what you want.
7. Daryl's House.
Daryl's House is such a fun place to go for dinner. They have live music every week (I think?) and the food is amazing. Not good for people who don't want to see people from their high school though because I am sure you will.
8. Cameron's Deli.
Cameron's is a great place to pick up a sandwich on your lunch break (if you work in Brewster or Cross River (like me!)) The Cluckin' Russian is incredible, but sometimes you have to keep it simple with a chicken cutlet, ranch and mozzarella.
9. Tony's Deli.
Bacon, egg, cheese and hash browns. That's it.
10. McKinney & Doyle.
Again, a tad on the pricey side so keep visits far and few between, but the food -- ugh. The bakery part of McKinney is great, too, for your morning pick me ups and pastry needs.
11. Gappy's
Honestly, I have never been here but I have only heard good things. So I assume it has to be good!
12. Tom Tom Bagel Cafe.
Best bagels in the area by far.
13. Top Hibachi.
Technically this is in Westchester, but if you're willing to make the trek, Top is one of the best hibachi restaurants I have ever been to. Such a fun vibe from this place and the food again is just so good.
14. JP Cunningham's.
With a great view of the water, JP's allows you to enjoy your food with something to look at. Great summer restaurant.
15. Pawling Tavern.
Well, this definitely doesn't look like much, but if you can get past its rough exterior, the Tavern has some of the best food in the area. Their burgers are amazing and they even have pickup!
So, home isn't too bad when you're eating, I guess. Blessed to have such amazing food choices in Dutchess and Putnam county -- ugh. Also, yes I probably definitely missed some and for that I am sorry. There is no chance I could catch em all in this situation.
