A phobia is an extreme or irrational fear of, or aversion to, something.
Everyone wishes that they didn't have any fears and that they were unstoppable. But, for some odd reason, we do have fears and it's not really known why we have these fears. Some may say they are caused by a traumatic event that occurred with the item that is feared. Some just think it is all in your head. I don't know how they managed to come up with the names for these phobias, but here are the 15 most common phobias people around the world have.
1. Arachnophobia — The fear of spiders
2. Ophidiophobia — The fear of snakes
3. Acrophobia — The fear of heights
4 .Necrophobia — The fear of death or dead things
5. Cynophobia — The fear of dogs
6. Claustrophobia — The fear of confined spaces
7. Coulrophobia — The fear of clowns
8. Pediophobia — The fear of dolls
9. Hemophobia — The fear of blood
10. Glossophobia — The fear of public speaking
11. Nyctophobia — The fear of the dark
12. Trypanophobia — The fear of needles
13. Agoraphobia — The fear of being in crowded places or being outside of your home alone
14. Pteromerhanophobia — The fear of flying
15. Mysophobia — The fear of germs
Most of these phobia can be treated through a combination of therapy and systemic desensitization. With systemic desensitization, people are repeatedly exposed to their fear in order to overcome that fear. Which means you might be locked in a room with multiple versions of your fear. I don't know about you, but I personally would not be OK with that. If your fear doesn't cause you to have a panic attack if it's around, you have a better and faster chance at overcoming your fear.
