15 New Yorkers, 15 Exes

And all the crazy that comes with them

15 New Yorkers, 15 Exes

This past February, I got out of a relationship with a compulsive liar who put me through some truly insane situations I could simply not make up. So, while I was in New York I was talking to my friend, Alayna, about it and our discussion inspired this article.

I figured there had to be some interesting stories in a city as big as the Big Apple, so I decided to go up to random people on the street around the city during my stay and I would say something along the lines of, "Hey, so I know this is totally crazy, but I am writing an article for my university called, "15 New Yorkers, 15 Exes," and I was just wondering if you have any good stories about something crazy an ex did to you, or maybe even something crazy you did to an ex." Here are the results.

1. "In high school, I tried to break up with my girlfriend and she had an asthma attack and a helicopter had to come get her and take her to the hospital." Bryan.

2. "Mine isn't all that exciting but I had to break up with my boyfriend four times before it actually worked." Eva Maria.

3. "I met a security guard at a concert one time and he gave me his number and a week later he texted me and told me how in love with me he was and how he had bought me all this stuff. Not really an ex, but it was still weird." Cassie.

4. "My boyfriend broke my heart so I killed his dog." Isaiah.

5. "I slept with my girlfriend's mom and broke up her parents." Dave.

6. "My boyfriend told me his sister was staying in his room so he put me in his mother's room but it turns out the 'sister' was actually his girlfriend -- and so was I." Nykeeta.

7. "My first long time girlfriend and I broke up after I found out she was hooking up with my best friend. Months later we both happened to be in the Bahamas at the same time for spring break and had only just returned to amicable speaking terms. My first night out there, I returned to my hotel room and opened that door to the sight of her having sex with my roommate." Arian.

8. "I had lost everything: my job, my place, money to pay for school and my family and I weren't on good terms and my girlfriend just left me at my lowest point." Malik.

9. "My ex and I are both from Scotland and we were in Cyprus vacationing and she was acting sketchy and we got in an argument, so I booked her a flight home for the next day without telling her and I sent her home." Kev.

10. "I was on a date at a Red Sox game with a guy named Dave and I heard a girl behind me say, "Holy shit! Is that Dave with another girl?" and then proceeded to Snapchat a picture of my date to her friend who was his girlfriend." Danielle.

11. "My ex boyfriend cheated on me so I legitimately took a baseball bat to his windows and trashed his car." Denyce.

12. "My girlfriend in high school was a circus freak who also knew Kung Fu and she tried to kill me once. This is real I swear." Tom.

13. "OK, so I was really mad at my boyfriend at the time so I fed his rabbit rat poison but then I felt really guilty so I rushed to Walgreens to get vitamin E -- because apparently that helps -- to save the rabbit. He didn't die." Jocelyn.

14. "So during my first week of college, my girlfriend at the time took some rocks from the graveyard near campus to decorate her pet cactus and obviously upset a misunderstood spirit so the campus proctor brought a priest to our residence hall to rid it of the ghost. I don't date her anymore." Phillip.

15. "My ex boyfriend made up a dead ex girlfriend that died his freshman year of high school in a drunk driving accident. On January 20th it snowed and he stood outside my apartment crying and said, 'It snows every year on her birthday.' This girl didn't exist." My very own story.

Needless to say, I had a very interesting summer. But it's good to know I'm not alone in my crazy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
